The revolutionary ultra-compact surface, Dekton® by Cosentino has been chosen for the exterior renovation of the iconic Cap Ferrat building in Rio de Janiero.  Built in 1976 and located in the exclusive Avenida Vieira Souto in Ipanema, the Cap Ferrat is considered an architectural icon worldwide. Home to a number of residential properties, the building has become a well-loved symbol within the community.

Due to persistent weathering and deterioration of the building’s exterior, architectural practice, Di Filippo Arquitectura selected Dekton® for the renovation of the existing granite façade, thanks to its superior qualities for outdoor applications.  Lead architect, Juan Carlos Di Filippo said, “We decided to keep the original cladding with the aim to cover and enhance it where possible.  For this we had to choose a new material with very particular properties.  Low porosity was a key factor due to the Cap Ferrat’s location, plus it also needed to be available in large format slabs whilst weighing as little as possible.  After analysing several materials, we selected the ultra-compact surface Dekton® by Cosentino.”

Dekton®’s wealth of benefits such as its high-resistance to UV rays, stains, thermal shock and colour stability were all determining factors in the selection process, due to the project’s close proximity to the unforgiving coast.  The materials also needed to suit the aesthetics of the surrounding environment, offering subtle colour as well as providing technical properties that offer exceptional performance.

Dekton® is ideal for large scale projects such as this, as slabs can be manufactured in large format to custom sizes, offering a greater level of precision for architects and designers.  A total of 3,800 m2 of Dekton® in the colour Danae was chosen for its elegant sandy hue reminiscent of the nearby beach, as well as its compatibility with existing materials used within the façade design.  Architect, Juan Carlos Di Filippo added, “Dekton® was definitely the right surface solution for this project”.
