When it came to redesigning a large kitchen in an Auckland villa, functionality was as important as style for its owners. sensa cosentino kitchen “For a family kitchen, only hard-wearing work surfaces should be considered,” explains the kitchen’s designer, Gunnar Fiese of Hewe Kitchens & Interiors. “Cosentino’s Sensa stone was not only chosen for its beauty and warmth, but because of its Sen guard treatment that makes the natural stone very hard wearing and able to resist staining for 15 years. If you think about oils and sauces splashing when you are cooking, or a lemon squirting juice when you are cutting it, or a little drop of red wine left on the bench, work surfaces and splashbacks have to perform, be easy to clean and not stain.” Fiese selected Sensa by Cosentino in colour Taj Mahal, a luxurious surface inspired by the infamous Indian monument to love, for the benchtops and splashbacks, as it paired perfectly with the white-washed oak cabinetry he designed according to the clients’ brief.  “It turned out to be an absolute stunner,” Friese says of the surface. “We have used it on all of the kitchen’s work surfaces, including the hob bench, island benchtop and bar benchtop. Taj Mahal is one of those stones you just want to hang on the wall as a piece of art.” " The home owners are fans of celebrity chef Josh Emett, and had spied his warm timber and stone interior aesthetic in social media clips featuring his home kitchen. The space served as inspiration and Fiese created a room with white sinks, brass tapware and tongue-and-groove joinery. The high-end details combined with the Sensa by Cosentino stone, create a stylish new heart of the home. “During the concept design phase, my client and I discovered we both love natural timbers and the colour green,” explains Friese. I also love clean lines and integrated appliances. So, the integrated Fisher & Paykel fridge is designed to be hidden between two tall cabinets with curved doors and the bench seat bordering the kitchen flows elegantly around the corner. Olive green squabs match the green scullery fronts.”  sensa benchtop In the new scullery, and in a small powder room that was renovated at the same time, Dekton by Cosentino, in colour Uyuni has been chosen for the benchtops. “A great design is nothing without great craftsmanship bringing it to reality and that requires excellent teamwork,” says Friese.
