Dekton’s Liquid Embers Creates a Luxe Kitchen

When Sara moved into a new home north of Auckland with stunning ocean views, she knew her kitchen had to work with the vista. “My partner Hayley and I wanted it to be elegant, but not distract from what nature had provided,” explains Sara. “We are lucky to have a superb view and I wanted the space to feel inviting and moody, but to ensure the eye was always being drawn out to focus on the outside.”

Sara and Hayley worked with Megan Harrison-Turner of Colour Which Interior Design and Damian Hannah from German Kitchens on revamping the small space. The existing galley style footprint was redesigned, creating an open, L-shaped kitchen that connected to the living and dining area. Dark oak Eggersmann veneer was chosen, along with Gaggenau appliances, and Dekton by Cosentino’s Liquid Embers was selected for benchtops and splashbacks.

“The design, colours and textures are all representative of these three descriptions: sophisticated, luxurious and inviting,” says Hannah of his design. “The unique Liquid Embers benchtops create an atmosphere in the room. Liquid Embers is a dark, carbon-like design which adds an elegance to the space and of course, there’s an air of mystery to it. It draws you in and is intriguing; you want to know what it is and how it was created. It’s very tactile and lends interest to the space.”

“I love how Dekton feels,” says the homeowner of Liquid Embers, which is carbon neutral from cradle to grave. “Kitchens should be tactile, warm and inviting. My partner and I love dark colours that are moody, so Liquid Embers spoke to us and it completes the room so elegantly.”

Hannah, who worked with Harrison-Turner on the dark colour palette, says that Dekton’s stain- and heat-resistant properties make it a popular choice for him.

“Dekton is a bullet-proof benchtop that I continuously specify for my clients as it is extremely hard-wearing and has a textural veining that is unique to Dekton. And the darker colours blur the lines of where angles, corners and joins start and end, with less shadows, giving your kitchen a seamless style, and can make the space appear much larger,” he says.
