A Darkly Dramatic Dekton Kitchen

When Annika Rowson was asked to create a bold, functional kitchen for a brand new home in Auckland’s Muriwai, she turned to Dekton’s Domoos, a matte graphite black that brings drama to any interior.  The kitchen had to make enough impact to compete with the wild landscape — black sand beaches, stark cliffs and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean — just outside the home. Rowson’s clients are keen entertainers, so as well as looking striking, the surfaces had to be high performing and stand up to heavy duty meal preparation and cooking.“Black Dekton benching provides a heat proof and durable work surface on all benching,” explains Rowson, who specified Domoos on the benchtops in both the kitchen and scullery.   " The kitchen sits in a neutral, open plan space that also includes the dining area and living room. The walls are rendered Venetian plaster which adds lightness and texture to the space, while the ceiling beams are timber and the living room furniture is classic in style. Black cabinetry matches the Domoos benchtops and adds to the boldness of the design by Rowson Kitchens, as do brass pull bars and knobs and an impressive kitchen island topped in the Dekton surface.   “The custom detailed island offers a traditional touch and a contemporary elegance to the home,” says Rowson, who worked with Hayes Builders on the project.  " The scullery is fitted with an additional oven and other appliances, as well as timber shelving that complements the graphite surfaces.  " Explore the full range of colours across Sensa®Dekton® and Silestone® here.
