The Balearic studio's main concern in designing this house of marés was to decipher the relationship between the built space and the liberated space

Irene Pérez and Jaume Mayol sought to find a balance between house and courtyard, understanding that both are complementary. To achieve this, they reformulated the typology of ‘patio’, giving rise to new variants that would serve all rooms. The result is an elongated dwelling in which the different areas are linked, with cross ventilation, and where each room is related to the courtyard by taking advantage of a part of it.

The living structure and the load-bearing structure of the house coincide, and both are built with vibrated concrete blocks. The joists that make up the horizontal structure are visible and the lintels stand out in order to study the position of the electrical installation elements. The outer face of the house is built with 20 and 15 cm thick marés blocks. This results in a heavy façade with high inertia that follows an energy efficient strategy.
