Celebrating Earth Day by looking back at Cosentino’s inspiring journey to sustainability

Celebrated annually on 22nd of April, Earth Day is a global happening that includes a wide range of events held by over a billion people in 193 countries. The theme of this year’s Earth Day is Invest in Our Planet, which is essentially what Cosentino has been practicing since the company’s established in 1979.

Cosentino's commitment to a holistic approach to sustainability serves as a shining example of the positive impact we can all have when we invest in our environment. Let's take a moment to appreciate our journey towards a greener future.

In 2022, we have reduced our Carbon Footprint by 6,1%, achieving a 12,8% accumulated reduction since 2018. We have also developed an Energy Transition Plan as part of our Carbon Footprint Reduction Plan to accelerate energy transition and emissions reduction on the energy side, signed SBTi commitment letter and are already working on the targets setting, and obtained a respectable B Score in our first year in Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

Our headquarters in the Industrial Park in Almeria, Spain and in our factory in Vitoria, Brazi are running 100% on renewable electric energy. In fact the industrial park is one of the largest self-consumption solar parks in Europe, capable of generating 15% of our annual electricity consumption. We have also implemented an Energy Management System (EMS) and completed 68% of 197 Energy Efficiency Measures in 2022.

We have also moved closer to a total circular economy with manufacturing that uses 99% recycled and reused water achieving 0% liquid discharge, over 15% waste recycling and more than 7,5% of recycling raw materials over total raw material consumption.

Thanks to HybriQ+® Technology, Silestone® is made with 100% renewable electrical energy, 99% recycled water, and more than 20% of recycled material content, which earned the product a Certified Life Cycle Analysis from cradle to grave.

Meanwhile, Dekton® – which is also made with 100% renewable electrical energy, 99% recycled water and 5 to 80% recycled content – has been certified as zero-waste in the manufacturing process, making it a carbon-neutral product throughout its life cycle.

All in all, our investment in the future of our planet is more visible than ever, trickling down to every slab used in prestigious projects around the world. And our sustainability practice will continue steadily – we’ll see you in future Earth Days for more updates!
