Designed by Danielle Ma, founder of Maer Atelier, The Art House is an ode to contemporary elegance with an artistic approach. Located in the exciting cityscape of Singapore, this project is defined by a neutral base with carefully selected colour accents, where art and premium materials coexist in perfect harmony. Among these, the ultra-compact Dekton surface by Cosentino plays a crucial role, bringing durability and aesthetics to a range of applications throughout the space.
A white canvas with splashes of colour
“The centrepiece of the design is the artistic wall cladding, which has been transformed into a large-format work of art in the double-height area of the living room,” says Ma. Extending to the ceiling, this intervention gives the space a sculptural character and becomes the guiding thread of the design.
Another key element in the space is the bespoke fireplace at the base, clad in Dekton. “The Dekton fireplace brings a modern and unique touch to the space,” says the architect. This element becomes the focal point of the room, adding a visual texture that beautifully complements the customer’s art collection without overshadowing it.
Dekton: balance and durability
When it came time to select materials for The Art House, Ma was clear that choosing Dekton by Cosentino was the ideal choice to achieve the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. “We chose two Dekton designs in light colours and a natural green stone for a splash of colour. Using too many different textures in a single space can be overwhelming, but here the contrast achieves a perfect balance,” says the architect.
Each of the surfaces chosen plays a strategic role in the final result. “The two Dekton designs complement each other: one features slightly more pronounced veining, while the other showcases a soft, ethereal pattern,” says Ma.
In addition to aesthetics, functionality was a key factor in the choice of materials. “The customer’s priority was to have a highly durable surface, and Dekton was our first choice because of its unrivalled durability,” says the designer.
Innovative applications with Dekton
In addition to its use in the fireplace, Dekton was used in other key areas of the flat, adding value in terms of both design and practicality. “We used Dekton to customise a dining table and as a surface for a wine cabinet. These applications significantly reduce the maintenance requirements for the customer in the long term,” says Ma.
The exclusive design used for the fireplace is a clear example of Dekton’s potential to create unique pieces. “The design we chose for the decorative fireplace is unique and ensures exclusivity,” says the architect.
Another great advantage of this material is its visual homogeneity. “The consistent and controlled design of Dekton eliminates problems such as tone variation or inconsistent quality, even in large-scale installations,” concludes Ma, highlighting the trust placed in the brand throughout the project.
