World Environment Day 2024 with Cosentino: Leading the Industry through Positive Change for the Environment

World Environment Day, celebrated annually, brings awareness to the environmental issues that we as a society face. Cosentino has always had a commitment to pursuing positive change for the planet embedded in its DNA.

Committed to the earth.

Cosentino has multiple key initiatives such as our energy efficiency along with our waste reduction and recycling that help pursue a more ecological standing point. The dedication to reducing our consumption in our production efficiency consists of using 100% renewable electrical energy and recycling 99% of our water usage. The unavoidable emissions that are made are put back into balance with the promotion of restoring our natural environment, this helps to offset our carbon footprint.

As a global leader in the surfaces industry, Cosentino has assumed its own particular role by encouraging innovation and continuous improvement to move towards a circular economy model that promotes the efficient use of resources, and the minimisation and recovery of waste. We are the only company in our sector with its own waste treatment and recovery plant and we use 100% certified renewable energy to fuel our Industrial Park in Cantoria, Almeria, Spain

Cosentino not only reduces its environmental impact but also supports broader ecological and social initiatives in the areas where we are present. This is through doing projects with social and environmental impacts, partnering with local social enterprises, non-profit organisations, and NGOs. These projects might include reforestation efforts, habitat restoration, and other initiatives aimed at enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem health.

Cosentino has worked with Singapore-based Seastainable Co. to offset 15,000kg of CO2 through replanting mangrove and seaweed seedlings in Bintan, Indonesia. The Singapore team also conducts yearly beach clean-ups. This year, we are embarking on a new CSR initiative - the Plant-A-Tree Initiative with the Garden City Fund and the 1 Millions Trees Movement. Rallying local partners from the architecture and design community,  we have exceeded our goal of raising money to plant 50 trees and raised over $15,000.

Providing innovative products.

We offer a range of innovative surfaces for homeowners and designers such as Dekton, a certified carbon-neutral ultracompact surface inspired by natural stone; Silestone, a low-silica surface made from premium minerals and recycled materials, using Hybriq+® technology for sustainability and high performance; SilestoneXM, an upgrade on Silestone surfaces which ensures that the surfaces have no more than 10% crystalline silica content, making it safer during the fabrication process; and Sensa which is natural stone such as granite and quartzite, equipped with special stain-resistant protection to provide spaces with visual and functional advantages.

Each product line is designed with sustainability and quality in mind, ensuring that your concerns are fully addressed. Feel guilt free when you buy quality products for your home or projects knowing you’re supporting a company that cares about you and our world. When you select your surface, you are also joining a movement dedicated to pursuing a better environment for our future.

Community Engagement.

Along with promoting the use of natural resources and sustainable materials in the construction and design of projects, Cosentino also regularly partners with architects, designers, and builders. Whether it’s large-scale building projects, smaller architectural structures, or ongoing discussions about sustainability, Cosentino engages with people from all angles in order to continue to drive a positive change.

Along with the previously mentioned Plant-A-Tree Initiative that Cosentino is running that will happen some time in August, Cosentino City Singapore will also be hosting a sustainable market together with other local eco-friendly brands towards the end of June 2024. Both of these upcoming schemes aim to promote sustainability and support local businesses committed to environmental stewardship, just as we are.

Lastly, some examples of the commitment that we have to our community include Cosentino’s Talks on Architecture and Beyond Series (TAB Series) Talks curated by Yann Follain, Deep Dive in Design talks with Kelley Cheng, which is entering its second edition this year. These efforts showcase Cosentino's dedication to fostering a culture of sustainability within the design and construction industries in the countries we operate.
