However, it is its interior spaces featuring the finest and most precious finishes where the luxury of this development shines at its best. For this reason, from the very first phase of the project which included 284 high-end flats, Cosentino products have been a must-have.

“From kitchen worktops and vanities to wood-look drawer fronts and shower and bathroom claddings, Dekton stands out in every flat”, explains Cosentino South Africa. “After meeting with the architect, providing several samples and making a mockup of the show flat, it was decided to use Dekton in thicknesses of 4, 8, 12 and 20 mm”, they further say.

In the words of its developers, Stein City is a “residential city”, a high-end development spread over eight square kilometres of lush green areas in Johannesburg. Among its many luxurious amenities are its golf course (designed by the renowned Nicklaus Design firm), its heliport, its equestrian facility, its excellent school and its 300 square metre lagoon.

Dekton: one material, endless applications

Indeed, there are not many projects that showcase the limitless versatility of the ultra-compact Dekton by Cosentino surface like this one does. “Because of its resistance to scratches, stains, heat, freezing and thawing, its stability, its availability in large format slabs (which means fewer joints) and its low maintenance, Dekton was the ideal choice”, explains the team of Cosentino South Africa, who teamed up with SCAD Architects, who were in charge of the project.

Thus, the kitchen worktop features 12 mm Dekton Natura slabs, a surface that replicates the quintessential style of marble with a soft grey veining and a glass-like gloss, achieved thanks to a unique nanotechnology-based treatment. As for its cladding, the material of choice was 8 mm Dekton Kreta, a matt grey shade inspired by traditional cement floors that evokes a sense of serenity and restraint.

Cosentino creates a bespoke colour for the project

For the vanity worktop, the material used was Dekton Glacier, an ultra glossy surface with fine golden veins over a white background. As for the drawer cladding, the material of choice was Valterra, a colour that replicates the patterns of natural wood but with all the advantages of Dekton. In both cases, a 12 mm thickness was chosen, which was also used for the bathtub cladding. Conversely, a bespoke colour called Dekton Greta was created for the shower cladding.

“This project is of great importance to Cosentino South Africa for several reasons. First of all, it is the first major development in the country made entirely of Dekton, specifically, using a large quantity of Dekton Slim (4 mm). Secondly, Dekton was the ideal finish for a multitude of different interior applications thanks to its fantastic features and versatility. Had a different material been used, it would have been limited to certain applications, but not Dekton!”, Cosentino South Africa says finally.

Recapturing the spirit of the past and combining it with a fresh, functional and elegant atmosphere was the aim of Carlos Álvarez’s comprehensive refurbishment of this historic building. The original elements and materials have been preserved and merged with innovative surfaces such as Dekton and Silestone. These two Cosentino surfaces manage to establish a bridge between the past and the present in the refurbished spaces, being the main feature in the bathrooms and the kitchen, where they enhance a style halfway between classic and contemporary. In keeping with the context, both the original floor and the exposed brick walls have been retained. The result is a very personal home that strikes the perfect balance between past and present.

Two colours in dialogue

‘The ease of installation of the materials and the technical advice of the Cosentino team’ were for Carlos Álvarez one of the keys that paved the way for this refurbishment. This consisted of revamping the two main bathrooms with Dekton, a hard-wearing material that is perfect for these wet areas, thanks to its easy cleaning and simple maintenance.

Specifically, the colour chosen for one of the bathrooms was Dekton Albarium, which provides luminosity and refinement with its ecru and faded tone. This matt colour, which hides reflections and shine that simulate the marble dust, is paired with Dekton Kreta, used to cover the floor. Inspired by the ideal colour of cement, it brings a sense of serenity and balance to the space and blends in perfectly with the contemporary style of the room.

Romantic style

With a more romantic feel, another of the main bathrooms features a very interesting combination of textures and materials. In this case, Dekton Helena takes centre stage alongside wallpaper and exposed brick walls. Helena is a rich colour with a perfect balance between grey and white tones and a delicate distressed texture. This way, the depth of onyx – the natural stone that inspired this piece – can shine through. The wooden floors complete this bright bathroom full of details.

A kitchen with soul

The other room in which the dialogue between Cosentino’s innovative surfaces and the house’s historic past is clearly visible is the kitchen. Here, the hydraulic floor tiles have been preserved, creating a characterful atmosphere, as have the vaulted ceilings with exposed brick.

To highlight the aesthetic power of this traditional floor type and the original ceilings, the architect and designer selected Silestone Ethereal Glow for the worktops. A colour that shows elegant shades of gold and grey on a nuanced white background and can completely transform the kitchen into a bright and sophisticated space, while offering great resistance to stains and scratches.

Having a sauna at home is a privilege, but if you dare to go a little further, to ‘think outside the box’, this space can provide an even higher level of comfort. This is what happened when the owners of a house in Switzerland decided to give theirs a new lease of life by removing the small, unused plunge pool in this area.

Bernhard Brunner of the interior design studio Brunner Intérieurs based in Erlenbach and Herrliberg (Switzerland) reminds us of this. Since the client wanted to get rid of this feature, why not take the opportunity to completely renovate the sauna and turn it into a small spa?

‘I suggested to carry out the refurbishment of the private wellness area in a way that would be value-adding. This is how we created the new sauna area, which provides the occupants of the house with small moments of daily luxury,’ he explains.

Dekton Laurent, the perfect compliment to an upmarket sauna

To do this, the wooden benches and their covering were retained and opened up to the surrounding space created by a glass wall towards the plunge pool. In addition, both the floor and the top of this small ‘fish tank’ were clad with the refined Dekton Laurent.

Inspired by the natural stone Port Laurent, the texture of this surface brings a touch of elegance to the interior thanks to the interplay of nuances that enhances the contrast of its tones. Thus, the golden veins establish a hierarchy in the space and bring warmth to a cold, dark background, which in turn add depth to the overall effect.

Dekton, a material that is resistant to moisture and extreme temperatures

In addition to its beauty, this Cosentino product was also selected for its outstanding performance, which avoids having to worry about humidity or high temperatures in the sauna room. Dekton, an ultra-compact surface composed of up to 20 natural minerals whose particles are compressed at 25,000 tons of pressure and sintered at 1,200 °C, can easily withstand both.

Thus, its low coefficient of thermal expansion makes it ideal for projects such as this sauna area, which are exposed to sudden changes in temperature (even withstanding fire). On the other hand, due to its very low porosity, Dekton is highly resistant to water and moisture, which does not alter its appearance or performance in any way.

Various thicknesses for a deluxe finish

‘It is extremely exciting to work with Cosentino. The company produces superior surfaces that are incredibly innovative and highly versatile. They are available in different finishes and thicknesses; in this case, 4 and 8 millimetres were preferred, which allowed us to make the floor and the surrounding wall cladding out of the same material,’ says Brunner.

Thanks to the minimal thickness of Dekton, they were also able to add exceptionally refined details to the new sauna, such as the angled mitre cut on the top, which makes it extremely unobtrusive. ‘These are the details that make working with Cosentino simply great,’ admits the interior designer in charge of this unique project.

‘A jewel in the heart of Singapore’s shopping district.’ Mandarin Gallery, a high-end shopping centre in Orchard Road, is home to some of the world’s leading international brands as well as an exclusive range of independent boutiques.

On its three floors, it also boasts a fine selection of haute cuisine restaurants, such as La D’Oro. The establishment, run by chef Yohhei Sasaki, has received rave reviews since its opening just a few months ago.

Its cuisine is ground-breaking, as it is Italian at heart, but cooked with Japanese techniques and ingredients. According to Mandarin Gallery management, it is ‘a combination of Japanese precision, Italian passion and the best seasonal ingredients from both countries’.

Cosentino, chosen for its wide variety of marble-like colours with stain-resistant properties

The restaurant features an interior design to match its high culinary qualities, by the renowned firm Asylum Creative, assisted on site by EDZ Interior Contracts. In order to create a stylish and refined atmosphere, dark tones have been paired with luxurious textures, touches of gold, an interplay of glitter and reflections, and innovative shapes.

‘We were looking for surfaces that offer a marble-like appearance, with a variety of colours and patterns to choose from, but at the same time are stain resistant,’ explains the studio. So they turned to Cosentino’s products: ‘It has a wide collection of colours inspired by different marbles, and they meet the requirements for surfaces where food and beverages are handled because they are easy to clean, even when it comes to wines and other foods that can stain them,’ says the firm.

Textures with depth and polished finishes for a stylish atmosphere

Thus, Cosentino’s surfaces have been used in this restaurant for multiple applications: to begin with, Silestone in its Ethereal Glow colour has embellished the bar in La D’Oro’s relaxed dining room. This tone is characterised by its elegant gold and grey veining, which blends into a tinged white foundation, running through the slab and bringing colour to every corner. Furthermore, it has been selected in a polished finish, which gives a more vibrant and intense colour and reflections, enhancing the sumptuous feel of the establishment.

Providing a beautiful contrast to this white, Cosentino’s ultra-compact Dekton surface, in its Kelya colour, has been used for the bar cladding. It draws its inspiration from sumptuous dark marble with light veins.

For the bar in the restaurant area, Silestone Eternal Noir has been chosen, a delicate pattern inspired by the asymmetry and elegance of natural stone, also in a polished finish. Its straight lines and sober design make dark spaces feel warm and elegant at the same time.

Functionality and beauty – the perfect match for designers comes from Silestone

The main feature of the flooring in this area is Silestone Snowy Ibiza in a polished finish, an exclusive white tone with subtle light grey veining. What’s more, Cosentino’s products also shine on the worktop in the reception area and in the bar surrounding the open-plan kitchen.

Both spaces are finished with the distinctive Eternal Marquina, a great favourite for sophisticated style decoration. Evoking the Spanish black Marquina marble, this option offers a bold black background crossed by strong and intense details and white veins.

Finally, for the worktop in the open-plan kitchen, Silestone’s Iconic Black colour in a polished finish has been preferred. This is a resounding, pure and perfect black which, enhanced with N-Boost technology, intensifies the colour and makes it last longer.

‘In Cosentino we have found the best selection of marbles, which suit the design and function of the space. Working with them has been great, as they combine functionality and beauty – the perfect match,’ concludes the Asylum Creative studio.

A renewed classic style is the common thread of this Brazilian house, which combines neutral tones with dark accents, noble materials and top quality, with carefully selected design pieces taking centre stage. The architecture and interior design studio of Ilana Santiago is responsible for this project, which has explored combinations to create a balanced and luxurious atmosphere.

‘As it is a classic style house, we made extensive use of neutral tones contrasted with scattered darker materials. To achieve this, we chose Dekton Rio Branco,’ explains Ilana Santiago. The Cosentino surface becomes the key feature in many rooms of the house, creating a sophisticated and expressive common thread. Ranging from the kitchen, staircase, the playroom, the bathrooms, a gourmet space and several bedrooms, they all make up a series of spaces in which Rio Branco shines in all its splendour.

A sumptuous staircase

The large communal areas on the ground floor, with a luxurious open-plan lounge leading to a dining room, are connected to the first floor via a classical staircase. Here, Dekton is part of the design, providing luminosity with the Rio Branco colour and impeccable technical features for this application. Thanks to its resistance to stains and scratches, it is the ideal surface for such a high-traffic area.

A bright and sophisticated kitchen

Because of these same qualities, Dekton is also the perfect material for the kitchen, contributing in this project to bring functionality and sophistication to the space, where the bright, light colour of Rio Branco has been complemented with blue furniture to give it a modern and fresh look. The service area also incorporates a cupboard in which the same material has been used for the worktop.

‘The quality of the material makes the difference throughout the house,’ says the architect. ‘We have used it with full confidence in kitchens, gourmet spaces or laundry areas. This confidence is essential when recommending a material for our customers’ homes. That is something we achieved with Cosentino,’ the designer stresses. ‘We always recommend Cosentino’s products, as they are high quality materials that stand out from other suppliers on the market today,’ she adds.

Luxury bathrooms

The bathrooms in the house are also equipped with Dekton surfaces. The designer has opted for the same colour, Rio Branco, for the bathroom countertops, thus weaving a common thread throughout the house and aesthetically connecting the rooms with each other.

The Dubai office of Ornare, an international design firm based in Brazil, is behind the design of the interior spaces of a cosy luxury villa in Jumeirah Park. Initially, the customer’s brief was to create a space that was both functional and creative. The Ornare designers’ proposal was a clean design for luxurious interior spaces, carefully curated with high design pieces and customised solutions throughout the house: from the kitchen to the cabinets, wall systems, wardrobes and pieces of furniture.

The search for the highest quality was also considered in the selection of materials. The house features a combination of wood, stone and metal in perfect balance, creating a welcoming and beautiful atmosphere. To create a dialogue with this high-end design, the studio chose Dekton. “The big advantage for us was that we could choose from many different options to create the perfect combination with the other finishes used, as well as use the material in a very creative way in combination with our Ornare wall system solutions”, explains Shalise Basso, architect and director of Ornare Dubai.

Versatility in multiple applications

Dekton’s versatility stands out through multiple applications in the interior spaces of this luxury home. From decorative wall claddings to kitchen worktops, splashbacks and office furniture cladding, Dekton blends harmoniously with the rest of the materials chosen and the palette of neutral tones used throughout the house.

Bergen, Arga, Natura, Helena and Laurent, colours inspired by natural stone, were chosen for the warmth and elegance they bring to living spaces. These colours were used for the TV wall systems in the bedrooms, living room and office, as well as in the kitchen. As for Galema, this colour was perfect to create an office desk integrated into the surrounding space.

Taking advantage of Dekton’s benefits

Its low porosity makes it stain resistant and very easy to maintain. As an indoor surface, its resistance to scratches and temperature changes also stand out. Furthermore, it is a Carbon Neutral product throughout its life cycle, which is a plus in terms of sustainability.

“It is a very versatile surface that we could use for both the kitchen worktop and the office desk. Furthermore, its technical advantages in terms of durability and quality are unrivalled. Thus, Dekton constitutes itself as a material that stands the test of time, whether as a work surface in a kitchen or as a cladding for furniture or walls.

“With Dekton we could choose from many different options to create the perfect combination with the other finishes used, as well as use the material in a very creative way in combination with our Ornare wall system solutions”.

Opened in 1995, the Porto Pi shopping centre is located on Palma's seafront promenade, facing the sea. It houses more than 140 establishments, including a cinema and a hypermarket, making it the main shopping and leisure venue on the island.

In order to remain at the forefront for another season, the company that manages it, Merlin Properties (a leader in the Spanish real estate market) decided to carry out a complete renovation of the entire complex. The renovation process included the replacement of the entire façade and interior finishes as well as the renovation of the stairwells. In addition, the architectural and engineering firm EOS created new and outstanding exterior elements within the framework of this project.

Complete renovation

“The renovation has addressed both functional and design aspects of the centre. In terms of functionality, accessibility in the shopping centre has been improved by centralising the communication hubs and connecting all floors by lifts. In addition, the facilities were renovated to improve energy efficiency”, explains Luis García, architect in charge of the project on behalf of the agents, Merlin Properties.

“As for design, the exterior façade has been fitted with a double skin, bioclimatic pergolas have been installed to naturally control the outside temperature and all the interior finishes have been renovated”, he further says.

A new modern and functional finish thanks to Dekton

The new interior spaces are characterised by light colours, repetition of elements and organic curves, all of which result in a welcoming and airy space, which is enhanced by the chosen Dekton colours. “We opted to use Dekton by Cosentino for both the flooring and the exterior cladding of the lift shafts”, says García.

The use of Dekton Danae in large formats slabs for the flooring has greatly improved the design and harmony of the shopping centre and, in terms of maintenance, its low absorption coefficient makes it easy to maintain and clean”, he adds. The architect alludes to the large, ultra-compact, 12 millimetre thick and sandy looking slabs used for the flooring, which feature different shades of beige that seem to evoke the dance of particles in the wind. As the architect points out, it is a non-porous material, so there is no need to seal it, preventing liquids and gases from penetrating the surface.

“In the lift shafts, Spectra gave us the elegant look that we were looking for”, says García. Specifically, the surface chosen was 8-millimetre slabs of this multi award winning black colour, exceptionally glossy and with glass-like reflections.

“Working with Cosentino materials provided us with a warranty in terms of quality and reliability, both in the execution of the project and in the prescription and selection of materials. Cosentino’s technical teams have collaborated with ours, providing support in both the design and execution phases”, says García.
