With the idea of merging interior and exterior, architect Carlos Rossi decided that the best way to achieve this was by using the same flooring throughout the house and terrace area, choosing Dekton Argentium. He also opted for the same cladding for the staircase leading to the second floor, where a small upper paradise offers a view of the city from above.
The apartment is outward-facing and located on a corner, receiving an abundance of natural light. This makes noble and natural materials, such as wood, the main features of the project. To reinforce this overall concept, Rossi chose Dekton Argentium for all the flooring in the house, a colour that also brings serenity to the outdoor terrace area and the cantilevered staircase with a glass balustrade.
Wood and indoor greenery
In the living room, open to the urban landscape through large glazed panels, the flooring takes centre stage for its ability to visually unify the different areas. The tone of Dekton Argentium, with its mineral base and homogeneous finish, creates a direct dialogue with the wooden joinery, the black metal of the staircase, and the greenery integrated into the interior.
The cantilevered staircase reinforces this idea of continuity. The steps, also made of Dekton Argentium, are set on a lightweight structure and are accompanied by a glass balustrade, allowing the piece to be perceived as a suspended element within the space. The same material extends to the base housing the greenery, resolving the connection between architecture and indoor nature without introducing elements foreign to the overall language of the project.
On the upper terrace, the outdoor flooring maintains the same texture and tone, reinforcing the direct connection between the two areas. The continuous surface complements the outdoor furniture and the integrated jacuzzi, allowing the space to function as a natural extension of the interior. The resistance of Dekton Argentium to solar radiation, humidity, and thermal variations is key here, ensuring colour stability and proper performance in an exposed environment.
Perfect for the project's technical performance
“The choice of Dekton by Cosentino was crucial to achieving the architectural language and technical performance required for the project,” explains the architect. “The material was applied to strategic surfaces, enhancing continuous planes, large formats, and the monolithic reading of volumes, contributing to a contemporary, clean, and sophisticated aesthetic.”
“From an aesthetic point of view, Dekton allows for high-quality finishes, with texture, tone, and visual uniformity that align with the architectural proposal, as well as enabling precise layouts and minimised joints, reinforcing the sense of continuity and visual lightness. In terms of lightness, the material offers an excellent strength-to-thickness ratio, reducing structural loads and enabling more slender, elegant, and technically efficient architectural solutions,” he continues.
“Durability was another determining factor. Dekton offers high performance against abrasion, impacts, UV rays, thermal variations, and humidity, essential characteristics to ensure durability, colour stability, and low maintenance over time. Finally, its functionality directly contributed to the space's performance, providing easy-to-clean surfaces with low porosity, high hygiene, and suitability for high-traffic areas, harmonising aesthetics and technical performance,” concludes the architect.
