Located in the tranquil and idyllic Maraetai Beach, New Zealand, this home owned by two local entrepreneurs was transformed into an oasis of calm and modernity by interior design studio Melanie Sa’u. Passionate about sailing and accustomed to the wonders of the coastal environment, the customers were looking for a space that would reflect their love of the sea, while standing the test of time and the demands of a busy lifestyle.
The renovation project meant going back to basics, stripping the house down to its bare bones and redesigning the layout where necessary. The choice of fresh white colours, which were complemented by wooden floors, reflects the customers’ desire to create a warm and welcoming, yet bright and fresh space that captures the essence of its location.
According to the studio, the most notable element of the project is the use of Dekton Trance in the kitchen living area. “We used Dekton Trance as a focal point in the kitchen living area. Not only did it fit in perfectly with the tranquil coastal atmosphere, but it also added a touch of modernity to the space,” says the studio. This material brings style and freshness to the design, while offering the durability and strength required to meet customer demands.
A new design with improved aesthetics and comfort
The decision to use Cosentino materials, and Dekton in particular, was driven by the need to combine aesthetics and functionality. “We focused on choosing materials that would be able to stand the test of time,” says the studio. The properties of Dekton, a material that is heat, scratch and stain-resistant, offer a practical solution for a family that does not want to worry about surface maintenance.
As for the customers, they found the blue veining of Dekton Trance to be a reflection of their surroundings and a constant reminder of the beach they love so much. “Although we had white and more subtle stones in mind for the project, it wasn’t until we visited the Cosentino factory in Auckland and saw a large Trance slab that the customer fell in love with the blue veining,” the studio says. Once installed, the choice became definitive, providing a unique look that exceeded their initial expectations.
In addition to their beauty, the use of Dekton surfaces gave the family the durability they needed to maintain their lifestyle with complete peace of mind. “Dekton offered a level of durability that allowed the customers to concentrate on their busy routines without having to worry too much about their worktops,” says the designer, highlighting how the choice of materials has had a positive impact on their daily lives.
