Rounded, elegant, and understated, this outdoor kitchen designed by Gerhard Dragschitz for his own home in Graz, Austria, redefines the concept of outdoor functionality. Conceived as a space where cooking becomes almost a sensory experience, the design embraces clean lines, subtle finishes, and an elegant contrast with the surrounding Mediterranean environment. The key: a Dekton Kelya surface that adds character, durability, and visual harmony.
A kitchen that doesn’t hide
With a linear composition, the kitchen is presented as a high-precision autonomous block. The dark matte texture of Dekton Kelya, inspired by natural stone with subtle veining, gives it presence without being ostentatious. This colour choice does not aim to blend into the landscape but rather to stand out discreetly, emphasising the sophistication of a project that does not compromise on design in any corner of the home.
The design includes integrated appliances, washing and cooking areas, and a rational layout that meets both aesthetic and practical criteria. All of this is set under a roofed structure with exposed wooden beams and concrete walls, surrounded by native vegetation, Mediterranean style, and stone floors that enhance its serene and contemporary feel. The stone-like finish, inspired by volcanic textures, creates an aesthetic connection with the rocks, woods, and plants in the garden, generating a cohesive and natural atmosphere.
Extreme durability
In a context like this, exposed to climate changes, oil splashes, hot utensils, and frequent use, the choice of Dekton is far more than a matter of aesthetics. “The greatest advantage in this space is its absolute indestructibility. The material is extremely durable, heat-resistant, and stain-resistant, which is a huge benefit when cooking frequently with hot oil, various ingredients, and heavy grills,” says Dragschitz.
The ultra-compact surface of Dekton Kelya ensures a seamless, precise, and easy-to-maintain finish. Additionally, the client’s familiarity with the material (having used Dekton for over three years) was key: “My previous experience completely convinced me of Dekton’s quality and reliability,” he emphasises.
