A couple who love the beach, travelling, enjoying life and occasionally babysitting their grandchildren decided to buy a house by the sea where they could spend weekends and summers. They wanted it to be a comfortable, warm place where they could make the most of their time there. Designer Tania Nikolitsis of Tanik Design was responsible for making this dream a reality. “He was the managing director of an energy company based in Adelaide, while she was a housewife. They now have four grandchildren and spend weekends and summers here, while their main home is in Glenunga. They love the beach and that is why they bought this house almost three years ago,” says the designer.
In this small private paradise, the bathroom had to be up to the task, and if comfort was the priority, the water area had to be as spa-like as possible. And so it was designed by Tania Nikolitsis.
Consistent and spacious
“The use of Dekton for the wet areas makes the interior look consistent, spacious, with a resort, hotel feel,” says the studio. Specifically, the material of choice for this area was Dekton Marmorio. “When considering the entire interior colour scheme, Marmorio was the right choice as it complemented the mosaics, rugs, wall colours and sanitary ware we had in mind: it met all the requirements.”
With its linear nature, the travertine-like Dekton Marmorio creates continuity and gives the impression of cascading stone walls. “Its soft palette allowed me to use eye-catching sanitary ware. Although there is a contrast, they work very well together. Even the bespoke mirror frames take on a whole new meaning here.”
The elegant, nuanced grey is enhanced by the natural light flooding into the room through a large window. Floors, walls, cabinets, washbasin surfaces... it is all enveloping. “Dekton offered a perfect look that I could use in a wide range of applications, such as wall claddings, flooring, table tops and joinery. All of these applications are very important to my interior designs and that is why I chose Cosentino to bring them to life.”
