The natural and culinary secrets of Extremadura are endless. And recently a beautiful house in Fregenal de la Sierra, one of the most beautiful villages in the province of Badajoz, was added to the list. With rural and traditional touches, this contemporary house designed by Nobo Estudio features avant-garde elements, from its structure, without central columns, to its joinery and overall quality.
This single-family home consists of a single volume with a pitched roof and an imposing double-height entrance that articulates the programme and separates the day and night areas, each with an atmosphere that is reflected in the colours and materials used in the design, contributing to the warmth sought by the owners.
A dialogue between wood and DKTN
Oak wood is the star of this project, where it has been used particularly in the kitchen and bathroom. The rest of the materials used, such as microcement and paint, are all part of the same colour range, giving a natural feel to the different spaces. The living room and kitchen are connected by a central partition wall with shelves and alcoves on both sides, providing plenty of storage space for both rooms. Large windows connect the interior to the garden and swimming pool, blurring the boundaries between inside and out. A floor-to-ceiling solid door separates the private bedroom and bathroom area from the rest of the house.
For the furniture, they chose neutral, white and earthy tones, which bring simplicity and extra warmth to the design and made it necessary for some of the finishes to be in the same colour range. Therefore, the studio looked for materials that followed this line and finally chose DKTN Nacre for the kitchen and bathroom worktops.
“DKTN Nacre was aesthetically perfect for both spaces,” the studio says. We chose it because of its colour and texture, but we also took into account all its properties. And it was with great satisfaction that, once installed, we realised that it perfectly matched the atmosphere of the house, not to mention the ease and peace of mind that comes from having professionals to advise us on technical issues.”
For the studio, it was a great challenge to convey a sense of calm and warmth to spaces designed to be wide and high, so it was essential to find cladding materials that were welcoming, but without compromising on performance. And DKTN Nacre delivered perfectly. This cream colour ranges from fine microcement to lime plastering and is characterised by subtle details and a degraded texture that give it a high sensory value. Simply perfect.
