Sawaru: a sensory bathroom designed by Claudia Afshar to appeal to the sense of touch

From her studio in Los Angeles, Claudia Afshar has become a global benchmark in interior design, creating environments with the unmistakable mark of her aesthetic taste. Her essence pervades this bathroom, designed for The Bathelier, the C·Bath ideas lab, Cosentino’s comprehensive proposal for bathrooms. By opting for evocative textures and surfaces, Afshar fills the space with nuances for the senses.

It is precisely the sense of touch that is most appealing in the soothing atmosphere of Sawaru, the title of the project, which means ‘touch’ in Japanese. Conceived as a sanctuary, the space explores the bathroom as a place of connection and self-care.

Sawaru welcomes visitors through an entrance that conveys calm and tranquillity. Light tones and textures combine perfectly with the smooth curves, creating an atmosphere for personal care and complete relaxation.

Neutral and serene, the interior of this bathroom lies somewhere between the concepts of a personal spa and a homely haven. Featuring a minimalist and relaxed design, the entire bathroom project revolves around the relationship between curved and straight lines, generating a leisurely pace that allows you to relax.

A recessed arch frames the shower area in the form of a bench, exploring ancestral hygiene rituals from a contemporary perspective. For this main feature, the designer chose the textured DKTN Tk06 Marmorio from the Pietra Kode collection. Its light-striped structure with filled pores gives it a bright and lightweight appearance.

The same colour is used for the walls and partitions, creating a homogeneous atmosphere reminiscent of Travertino Navona, the natural stone that inspired it. In dialogue with this, the designer has pushed the washbasin to its limits, reproducing the curved shapes and embellishing it with Silestone Nolita, a light shade with delicate gradations.

The floor brings all these features together in a warm and evocative DKTN Nacre, a cream colour ranging from fine micro-cement to lime plaster. Its subtle details and degraded texture give the whole space a high sensory value.
