the daring decision to use dark colours had captivating consequences in this kitchen. laminex absolute matte “black” was selected for the cabinets and kicks for its fingerprint resistant properties. black moritz handles were added to doors and drawers below bench height. the absence of handles on overhead cabinets and the matte black sink with no drainer complement the kitchen’s modern minimalist appearance. topped with 20mm silestone benchtops in polished “charcoal soapstone”; the result is remarkable. this chef’s kitchen boasts a 900mm freestanding cooker and undermounted rangehood, an integrated dishwasher, a zip hydrotap and many space-saving cabinet fixtures housed in cabinets edged with black to ensure no whiteboard can be seen from behind closed doors. overheads are fitted with blum aventos bi-fold lift mechanisms and led strip lighting is cleverly concealed in a channel under the overhead cabinets. the transformation is completed by the toughened mirror splashback surrounding the window that allows prisms of colour to reflect from the natural and artificial light sources in the kitchen creating a simply stunning display.
