When it comes to paradise, Brazil is often one of the first countries to come to mind, due to its lush vegetation. More specifically, the municipality of Itacaré, located on the south coast and part of the state of Bahia, stands out from the crowd. And if we are looking for precision, Casa 01, designed by the Saraiva + Associados studio (S+A studio), is a truly tropical paradise where luxury, architecture and nature coexist harmoniously.
This home is tailored for a family that values social interaction and gathering with friends and family, all within the strict environmental constraints of the region and the condominium. These requirements included a design that would blend discreetly into the landscape and minimise disruption to the site. Spoiler alert: they succeeded.
The most striking feature of Casa 01 is its respect for the natural environment, with sea views from every room and spacious areas. The architects placed great emphasis on reducing the use of columns to increase the sense of openness, creating a light and airy atmosphere that is connected to nature from every angle.
To achieve this, the choice of materials was of paramount importance. They were selected not only for their aesthetics, but also for their ability to adapt to the environmental conditions and their specific functions. In particular, ultra-compact Dekton stone is used in various applications throughout the project, complemented by minimalist frames and quartzite. The harsh local environment demanded materials that could withstand the conditions. Casa 01 is designed to last.
A villa open to the landscape, with Dekton Lunar providing continuity
Dekton Lunar can be seen in a variety of applications throughout this contemporary tropical mansion with its clean lines, from the interior and exterior flooring to the wall cladding in the kitchen and bathroom, as well as the stairs and ramps leading to the garage. The choice of this material as the main feature of the house was deliberate: it offers durability and ease of maintenance, which were non-negotiable requirements for the client.
Cosentino’s ultra-compact stone not only ensures longevity, but also provides a consistent colour scheme throughout the project, maintaining visual harmony. The Dekton Lunar colour is a reinterpretation of the traditional cement aesthetic with an industrial twist. “Its subtle texture on a white base makes Lunar a trend colour. The pattern and background blend seamlessly,” explains the studio.
In addition to the ‘main house’, two outbuildings – a ‘vanda orchid garden’ and a ‘beach bar’ – complete the project. The former houses a collection of vandas in a glued laminated wood structure, while the latter, designed by S+A Vietnam studio, is made from treated bamboo and rattan, adding an organic touch.
Casa 01 is a shining example of eco-conscious design, achieving a clean and unobtrusive aesthetic while also prioritising sustainability, even in its choice of materials, using Dekton, a carbon neutral product throughout its life cycle. This is how paradise is built.
