The Casa JM project, developed by Darkhaus Design Gallery, is based on the idea of creating a functional, warm and contemporary home for a family of five. Located in the green surroundings of the Kentucky Country Club in Santa Fe, Argentina, the two-storey house combines extension and renovation to redefine the way common spaces are enjoyed.
On the ground floor, the kitchen becomes the emotional and functional core of the house. It is the family meeting place, a space connecting everyday life with shared moments. “The most outstanding feature is the integration of the kitchen as the heart of the home, harmoniously articulating the large living-dining area,” explain Darkhaus. This open and continuous space is complemented by a wine bar designed for adults and a playroom for children, achieving a balance between social, playful and intimate aspects.
Dekton Salina, continuity and character
The choice of material was crucial in defining the tone of the project. The studio opted for Dekton Salina, inspired by the salt patterns left by low tide on sand and rocks. These delicate white ridges are materialised in an asymmetrical pattern of grey veins on a white base that reinterprets the classic elegance of Carrara marble. It was used on the worktop, central island and vertical cladding, creating a continuous and luminous surface. “Dekton Salina was chosen because its neutral and contemporary aesthetic enhances the design strategy, integrating the off-white, medium grey and taupe tones of the kitchen and living area, providing visual continuity and sophistication,” the authors point out.
Chromatic coherence defines the entire intervention: the kitchen and living area share the same neutral base, the dining room introduces a contrasting note with a black stone table, and the wine bar extends that dark and elegant atmosphere. The proposal is completed with a palette of colour blocks that organises the home: neutrals in the common areas, black in the dining room, blue in the playroom, and taupe and sand tones on the upper floor.
At Casa JM, functionality is inseparable from aesthetics. Dekton Salina offers exceptional resistance to intensive use. “With three children, I needed surfaces that are durable and easy to clean,” says the owner. “Dekton gives me peace of mind because it doesn’t stain, scratch or wear out with daily intensive use.”
