The French duo Rim Guirari and Thomas Castagnet founded the award-winning interior design studio Mustard & Linen over a decade ago. Based in Abu Dhabi, the firm operates internationally, creating projects for Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. With a team of over 50 professionals from around the world, the leaders of Mustard & Linen realised it was time to find a new environment to accommodate them. They found it on the serene Saadiyat Island, where they transformed 600 square metres into a welcoming and unconventional workspace, including a materials library, a mindfulness room, and creative corners for hands-on work, fostering focus and imagination.
The new studio is, in the words of its creators, a warm and people-centred environment designed to inspire creativity, collaboration, and deep focus. To achieve this, the designers used a warm and layered palette of soft textures, natural materials such as terracotta, and organic tones, accented with bold and energising colours. These are particularly evident in the carefully selected wallpapers, which help create distinct atmospheres in each area. The only constant throughout the space is the greenery, which connects the workers to nature.
Dekton: elegance and functionality in the workplace
Maintaining the elegant design concept without compromising functionality was key throughout the process. “From complete libraries to immersive material labs and AI-generated visuals, our office is a space where our team can fully thrive, and our clients can experience our concepts first-hand,” explain Guirari and Castagnet.
For this reason, the creatives utilised Dekton in numerous applications, including the standout feature of the original mobile island with a Dekton Nebbia worktop. “It occupies the centre of the materials lab, a dynamic space designed for client presentations, creative workshops, and mood board creation,” the studio's founders explain.
The meeting room, an intimate setting designed for more formal and private interactions, features a table with a Dekton Kelya top, accompanied by leather-backed chairs. The kitchen worktop is also clad in Cosentino's ultra-compact surface, in this case, Dekton Bromo, as is the bathroom vanity worktop, made with Dekton Neural.
“Impeccable performance”
“Dekton was chosen for its ultra-compact composition, which offers the beauty of natural stone with superior durability and performance. Its wide range of finishes and formats brought both aesthetic flexibility and practical functionality to the workspace, making it an ideal solution for creating design-intensive and frequently used spaces. Its durable and versatile nature ensures impeccable performance across multiple surfaces, from the materials lab to the meeting rooms, bringing elegance, quality, and consistency to the entire project,” summarise Guirari and Castagnet.
