The transformation of Marko Markoolio Lehtosalo's kitchen was part of the latest season of the popular Swedish show Marko & Irma, where the audience closely followed the journey “from a cluttered space to a serene environment: from chaos to control.”
The musician and presenter faced a completely disorganised space after a comprehensive renovation of the house in Värmdö, on the outskirts of Stockholm, and needed a kitchen capable of withstanding intensive use, being easy to maintain, and aesthetically fitting into the overall design of the home. Designer Ulrika Audelius, from Ballingslöv Järfälla, received a very specific brief: “The kitchen had to endure demanding conditions, be easy to maintain, and offer good possibilities for structure and order.”
Marko was clear from the start when choosing the furniture: he fell in love with the beige FENIX finish from Ballingslöv, a classic matt tone that brings visual serenity. The designer describes it as “a classic colour and durable furniture… with a unique silky matt finish that, with its straight lines, creates a calm and understated impression.” Alongside Electrolux appliances, the kitchen was ready to combine design with plenty of culinary activity.
A durable worktop
But there was a decisive aspect for Marko: he needed an extremely durable worktop, capable of withstanding direct heat, impacts, and stains, especially because the kitchen is closely linked to his hobbies. “One of Marko's interests is hunting and also cooking, so during preparation things can get very hot,” notes Ulrika. That’s why the choice of material was clear. “Dekton is an unbeatable material against scratches, stains, and heat,” says the designer. “Hot pots and pans can be placed directly on the worktop.”
The proposed surface was Dekton Trevi, a linear design with a wavy pattern in grey and brown tones that perfectly matched the interior palette and the natural surroundings visible through the large windows. Ulrika explains that it was “a very fitting combination with the rest of the chosen colours and also suitable for the exterior environment.” The colour belongs to the Pietra Edition collection and “is inspired by the classic beauty of Roman silver travertine.” This nod to travertine translates into a soft texture, with parallel veins that bring movement and a timeless presence to the kitchen.
The house features large windows overlooking a garden with a beach and palm trees, a landscape that influenced the overall colour selection: “the idea was to choose natural tones that connected the exterior environment with the interior.” To ensure more comfortable acoustics in such an open space, a Smartwall sound-absorbing panel from K-bygg was incorporated.
