2020 CSR Report: A resilience course based on innovation, sustainability and people

The company has made the planned industrial, environmental and product R&D investments, thanks to which it has develop state-of-the art technologies such as HybriQ®. Cosentino was consolidated as an employer branding during 2020, a fact endorsed during this year in which it has already created 560 jobs to reach a total workforce of 5,300 employees.

In a year marked by the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the multinational carried out an exercise of resilience based both on its flexibility and adaptability, as well as on a business model based on innovation and R&D, sustainability and, above all, the dedication of the entire human team of the company. Thanks to this, it not only maintained its economic results compared to 2019, but also increased its contribution to the main SDGs related to its activity.

Innovation, R&D and safety

In 2020, Cosentino has continued to make significant industrial and product R&D investments. All of which are characterized by a high degree of sustainability and a long-term vision. The total investment made by the company in these areas, together with environmental management, was close to € 120 million in total.

The most relevant milestone was the release of the pioneering HybriQ® technology. HybriQ® uses a new hybrid formulation of mineral raw materials and materials of a recycled origin. In addition, this technology makes it possible to reduce the use of crystalline silica in the composition of Silestone®.

Sustainability and environmental management

HybriQ® is precisely a new example of the company’s commitment to sustainability, the circular economy and the reduction of the carbon footprint. This technology collects milestones already achieved by Cosentino such as the use of 99% reused water from production processes and 100% renewable electric energy.

To these achievements it must add new progress last year such as the classification of Dekton® as Carbon Neutral Product or the production of up to 1.45 million m2 of products using recycled or recovered raw materials (22% of the total production of Silestone® and Dekton® brands).

In terms of recovery, Cosentino managed around 400,000 tons of waste in 2020, and recovered 45% of the waste generated, increasing the recovery ratio by 37% compared to 2019.

People

Beyond innovation or sustainability, commitment to people is Cosentino's main value and asset. Cosentino maintained its commitment to quality employment, consolidating its position as an employer branding. At the end of 2020, the company had a total workforce of 4,740 employees (4,785 in 2019). Furthermore, the company increased the number of indefinite contracts to 93%, and its workforce was made up of people from 76 different nationalities.

This rate of hiring has multiplied during this year, since only in the first five months of 2021; Cosentino has increased its workforce with 560 new jobs. So the company currently reaches the 5,300 employees worldwide.
