Wellbeing workshops and sustainability talks hosted at Cosentino City
The flagship architecture and design centre for Cosentino UK, Cosentino City London was excited to be hosting a plethora of must-attend events, workshops and talks throughout last Clerkenwell Design Week (24-26 May 2022). Situated at 28-32 Old Street, Cosentino City London boasts a location in the heart of the architectural and design community – and the festival.
With sustainability as its core theme, the main initiative, which was present throughout the 3-day event, was Cosentino’s “Dekton Drop Boxes”. Together with Clerkenwell Design Week, Cosentino created letter box style bins which was clad in its revolutionary, carbon neutral surface Dekton Trilium, and placed in and around Clerkenwell. Cosentino encouraged all visitors to post their used maps so they could be re-purposed for a creative initiative. Each box includes a description of the project, and simply requires visitors to pop their map in to be re-purposed, along with their business card for an automatic entry into a luxury prize draw where the winner wins a meal for two worth £200 at Maison Bab.
After Clerkenwell Design Week, Cosentino will be collaborating with sustainable artist Emmely Elgersma (@emmely) to upcycle the material collected into a paper mâché sculpture. An event will then be hosted in its City Showroom throughout the summer to exhibit what has been created – before moving on to a display at the Museum of London.
Cosentino London City Manager, Olivia Ashley says, “We were really proud to be sponsoring this year’s festival, and our Dekton Drop Boxes illustrate what Cosentino is all about – not just during this festival – but in everything it does and looking way into the future. Cosentino focuses on water and energy management, using recycled materials and offering products that carry zero carbon footprint for architects and designers to specify to clients and have complete peace of mind”.
Talks and Events
To kick off the events on Tuesday 24th May, Cosentino hosted an insightful talk around the Spanish multinational’s huge commitment to sustainability, presented by the Vice President Global Product, Valentín Tijeras. Talks took place at 12pm and 7pm, with the evening event including a Guest appearance from Lee Mccormack from smart sustainable software company, MyGlobalHome. MyGlobalHome is reinventing the understanding of what constitutes a smart home, and Lee was sharing his insights with Valentín. In addition, the Global Head of Retail and Innovation for Cosentino, Cristina Mariaca presented a talk on a brand new digital platform which has been created specifically for interior designers; C Top.
In keeping with the theme of sustainability, Cosentino also hosted Terrarium workshops alongside Leafage firm. On Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th at the City, Leafage was running the workshops that are known to improve wellbeing through nature.
And as Carbon neutral Dekton® is renowned for its adaptability and application possibilities, especially for large-scale buildings, Cosentino arranged several demonstrations together with German-based, KIEL at the showroom using the latest Dekton® Slim 4mm surface to showcase how it is applied for building Façades. Each day Keil was giving a deeper view into what undercut technology is all about in ventilated facades, demonstrating their drilling technique using the undercut anchor.
Finally, to further demonstrate the adaptability of Dekton® by Cosentino, whilst also providing a unique way to experience Clerkenwell Design Week, Cosentino teamed up with PEDIBUS to clad a 12-seater bar bike with Dekton® for a fun way to network and explore. The bike was available each day for groups of architects and design professionals.
