Cosentino materials stars the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020

The innovation, design and commitment to sustainability of cutting-edge materials such as Dekton® and Silestone® can be seen in the multiple applications, uses and shapes of the cladding in the Spanish Pavilion.
As a partner company, Cosentino also organises different activities within the Pavilion’s agenda, such as the “Design Day”, to be held on 9th November.

Cosentino Group contributes with its main brands to the Spanish proposal for Expo Dubai 2020. As was the case at Expo Milan 2015, the surfaces of Cosentino, a partner company in the construction of the Spanish Pavilion, play a leading role in the decoration and construction solutions of the project designed by the Amann-Cánovas-Maruri studio (Temperaturas Extremas Arquitectos, S.L.P.).

The multinational has provided nearly 3,000 m2 of its Dekton® ultracompact surface for different uses and in various sizes and finishes, as well as countertops and bars made from its other leading brand, Silestone®. In this way, the main spaces of the Spanish Pavilion show the versatility and wide range of applications of these materials, which are also fully in line with the values and thematic axes of both the Expo and the Spanish proposal. Sustainability, resource efficiency, circular economy and innovation are core aspects of the Almería-based company’s business activity, which are reflected in the value proposition of its brands, Silestone® and Dekton®.

The latter showcases its wide range of features and applications in the most interesting areas of the Pavilion. Thus, the floor of the main exhibition gallery, which houses the spectacular exhibition ‘El bosque de la Inteligencia’ (The Forest of Intelligence), designed in partnership by External Reference (Carmelo Zappulla) and Onionlab (Aleix Fernández), features a large format (155 x 140 cm) floor in Dekton® Radium (700 m2), from the Industrial series. This Dekton® surface incorporates up to 80% recycled materials in its composition. Meanwhile, the stunning Dekton® Halo Xgloss finish shines on the floor of the foyer, another of the iconic elements of this Pavilion, which hosts the art installation ‘Dinamo’, created by Daniel Canogar in collaboration with the composer Francisco López.

Other notable uses of Dekton® are the wall and floor cladding of the bathrooms, foyers and kitchen in the Basement Floor, made of 4 mm thick Dekton® slabs in Kreta colour, and the cladding of the exit ramp of the Pavilion, which features a ventilated façade in Dekton® Domoos and Zenith with vinyl prints representing the main themes of the Pavilion. Finally, in the restaurant area, the floor of the Main Restaurant on the first floor, is made of Dekton® Arga, from the Stonika series.

Cosentino’s contribution to the event is rounded off by its other major brand, Silestone®, which is also a benchmark in terms of sustainability and circular economy thanks to the new HybriQ® technology by Cosentino. Silestone® displays all its beauty and performance in the main restaurant areas of the Pavilion. The iconic Silestone® White Zeus is the star of two spaces located on the first floor, the Main Restaurant, where it has been used for the bars and islands, and the Tapas Bar. Additionally, the elegant Silestone® Eternal Charcoal Soapstone is used on the counter of the restaurant area, La Gran Barra, as well as on the bathroom countertop of the Main Restaurant.

Cosentino contributes to the Spanish Pavilion Agenda

In its role as partner company, Cosentino contributes to the generation of content and the programme of activities of the Spanish Pavilion Agenda during the Expo. This week, Cosentino participated in the so-called ‘Architecture Summit’, organised by the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. In this context, Miriam Llano, Marketing Manager for the Middle East at Cosentino, gave a talk on the C-guide project, the global guide to outstanding contemporary architecture jointly sponsored by the Fundación Arquitectura Contemporánea (Foundation for Contemporary Architecture) and Cosentino Group. The event was accompanied by a video featuring Rafael de la Hoz, Trustee of the Fundación Arquitectura Contemporánea and Coordinator of the scientific committee responsible for the selection of the projects contained in the guide, specially recorded for the event. This was followed by the announcement of the Dubai projects included in the guide, among which the Expo Pavilions stand out. Dubai thus joins the C-guide with 78 projects, including six with the highest rating (CCC).

Design Day – 9th November

One of the next big events on the Spanish Pavilion Agenda will be the “Design Day”. The event, jointly organised by Cosentino, Roca and Andreu World, will be a major occasion from the point of view of Design as a vehicle for competitiveness and international promotion. Cosentino is organising the session “Spanish Design: Freshness and innovation for a global market. Success stories”, which will feature keynote speeches by Juli Capella, from Capella García Arquitectos, and Eva Prego and Cutu Mazuelos, from Stone Designs.

The three will later join a round table discussion chaired by Pilar Marcos, Director of the “Diseño Interior” magazine, and also featuring Pablo Conde, Director of Fashion, Habitat and Cultural Industries at the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX in Spanish) and Santiago Alfonso, Vice-President of Communication and Corporate Reputation at Cosentino Group.
