If there is one thing that characterises architect Remy Meijers, it is his ability to create spaces and designs that, behind their apparent simplicity, conceal a coherent and comprehensive vision honed over two decades of project development. This project is part of The Bathelier, the C·Bath ideas lab, Cosentino’s comprehensive proposal for bathrooms.
In contrast to the historic architecture of this bathroom, Meijers uses lightweight, contemporary elements with an essentialist design and straight lines, while retaining original ceilings, doors and windows to add a sense of warmth. An experience that invites you to indulge in the natural fusion of old and new. The aim of this project is to ensure that the original elements of the space are maintained with an updated approach.
A shower that catches the eye
The shower area is the centrepiece, dominating the centre of the room. Its raised floor design preserves the original ceiling structure and gives it greater prominence, making it a sculptural element. Designed in Dekton Rem, this centrepiece houses a fully open shower tray. The elegance of this colour, inspired by classic marbles, exudes sobriety and tranquillity and adds refinement with brown and grey veins with gold accents.
To achieve this dialogue, Meijers combines decorative elements, such as the ceiling mouldings and herringbone flooring, with contemporary materials, such as Dekton and Silestone, which are used for the washbasins (Marie Top L) and shower trays (Dekton Rainfloor).
A balanced and contemporary space
In addition to Dekton Rem, Meijers chose Silestone White Zeus for the washbasins and the textured Dekton Taga for the countertops, furniture and part of the walls. Inspired by the Taj Mahal quartzite, Dekton Taga fits perfectly in this bathroom, providing a high gloss and aesthetic quality.
The cladding, washbasin and shower surfaces therefore offer a contemporary twist on traditional materials in contrast to the wood and herringbone flooring. The overall impression is one of balance and simplicity.
Visually connected to the screens through a large glass panel, Meijers also suggests an outdoor space for contemplation that complements the welcoming atmosphere of the bathroom.
