The latest project by ARQ4U studio, led by architect José Luis Lleó Oliver, is an example of premium modernisation in a classic flat without losing its essence. Located in A Coruña, this exclusive apartment combines timeless elegance with cutting-edge materials, featuring the ultracompact Dekton surface by Cosentino.
“From the beginning of the project, the aim was to update and modernise the space without losing the essence and patina of a classic flat,” explains Lleó. The result is a home where white serves as the chromatic base, enhancing natural light and acting as a canvas to highlight carefully selected textures and materials.
Redistribution and spaciousness
The renovation focused on a new spatial organisation, reducing the number of rooms to gain spaciousness and comfort. The bathrooms were enlarged and given a more functional design, the kitchen was integrated into the living room as the main space, and a hidden laundry area and guest toilet were added. “The goal was to bring warmth through high-quality materials, creating unique and timeless spaces,” says the architect.
Dekton as the aesthetic centrepiece
The heart of the home is the kitchen, dominated by a nearly three-metre island that serves both as a breakfast bar and a work area. This element is conceived as a sculptural piece in direct dialogue with the living room. For its finish, ARQ4U chose Dekton Sabbia, cross-cut to highlight its natural porosity without compromising hygiene.
It is “a contemporary reinterpretation of this noble stone, Travertine, used since Roman times,” notes Lleó. In addition to its beauty, the surface ensures “high standards of sanitation, hygiene, and durability, with easy maintenance and a timeless aesthetic.”
The choice of Dekton was based on both its durability and its ability to integrate with other materials in the home, such as oak wood and burnished iron. “In these spaces, we placed special emphasis on material selection, prioritising not only quality but also texture,” notes the architect.
In the bathrooms, Dekton was also used in floor-to-ceiling pieces for the showers, with integrated niches and double-basin washbasins in a single piece. Dekton Awake and Dekton Morpheus were the chosen colours.
The collaboration with Cosentino was key to bringing the project's vision to life. “Thanks to the close collaboration with the Dekton Cosentino team, we were able to visualise the different material options with the client, optimising the pieces and selecting the references that best harmonised with the rest of the proposal.”
