The AA House is located in a small village in Baix Empordà, amid stone constructions and exposed masonry affected by the region’s strong tramontana winds.

The architects set out to design a house integrated in the landscape while creating an intimate atmosphere protected from the access road. It was also a priority to make the building bioclimatic, using meteorological conditions to maximize comfort. The proposal unfolded from a wall and two bands that delimit the dwelling.

The boundary between the plot and the road is resolved with a traditionally constructed wall, compact and protective (against both traffic and wind). The first band of the house – two volumes – contains the wet zones (baths and laundry rooms) between three courtyards that enhance natural ventilation and lighting conditions while isolating the parking zone. In the second band we find a diaphanous main space (kitchen, dining room, and living room) next to the bedrooms.

All the rooms face south, opening onto the garden and swimming pool. Protection against the southern glare is provided in the rooms by wooden shutters and in the central space by a metal pergola and climbing plants (wisterias).

The bedroom interiors use a dry construction system with the aim of making this second band able to adapt, over time, to changes in the residents’ needs. So the diaphanous main space can grow in the future.
