Acebo 6
Pía Mendaro
Madrid, Spain
As part of the Barbecho project, Pía Mendaro (Madrid, 1991) has renovated a row house of the 1920s, located at Calle Acebo 6 in Madrid, to be used as a workshop/residence by artists and other autonomous professionals.

One of the main objectives was to provide a flexible, versatile space fit for working with heavy machinery and large materials, but also for gathering clients or hosting large exhibitions. Everything should be quickly modifiable. The second part of the program involves the large rear wall of the main space. From there one gets to the suspended catwalk to find the bed, the shower, and a storage area hidden in the stairs. This wall in turn incorporates a small bathroom and different electronic devices serving the workshop. As for the exterior, the house is flanked bby two courtyards, one leading to the project and the other with a shed containing a single room, the kitchen.
