Design and functionality are the guiding principles that Beamonte y Vallejo Arquitectos studio has followed for the design of this single family dwelling in Pradejón, a village in La Rioja (Spain). One of the studio’s greatest allies in this endeavour was the high quality of Dekton, which contributed to a Passivhaus-certified building in which contemporary design reigns supreme both indoors and out.

“We have used Dekton for the floor and cladding finishes in this house, taking advantage of the material’s strengths: quality and aesthetics”, the studio says. “A quality that makes it suitable for all spaces, ensuring perfect performance and durability, and an aesthetic that adds an extra touch of design”, they further say.

Perfect for wet areas

“The flexibility in terms of formats made it possible to use the same model in different sizes depending on the installation area, thus making the best use of the material”, explains the studio. “For example, for the cladding of wet areas, we chose the large format model to minimise the number of joints, which are always vertical. This helps in terms of functionality and gives it a more attractive appearance”, the studio says.

Specifically, Dekton Kelya and Dekton Kreta were the colours chosen for the bathroom cladding in this house, while the showers feature Dekton Lunar Grip + shower trays, which despite their anti-slip finish, succeed in giving a uniform appearance to the whole.

Worktops and floors in perfect balance

The deep shade of Dekton Laurent brings elegance and prominence to the open kitchen. Used on the worktop and splashback, its texture inspired by Port Laurent natural stone creates a chromatic play that blends perfectly with the kitchen furniture. Its great resistance to stains and easy maintenance make it a perfect surface for this room.

In addition, this dark colour contrast perfectly with the colour chosen for the floor. Dekton Lunar, a reinterpretation of conventional cement with an off-white background, is designed to bring light and airiness to any space. Used throughout the common area that houses the kitchen, living and dining room, this colour serves as a guiding thread between the different spaces, creating a uniform and balanced design concept.

The same colour was used for the bedroom floors, giving a sense of continuity to the whole project. Thanks to its technical properties and durability, Dekton is the ideal material for floors and high-traffic areas, ensuring a flawless appearance over time.

A powerful and comfortable outdoor space

“The house has been designed taking into account the specific conditions of the site, on a plot located between two other plots already built. It therefore seeks to establish itself through introspection, taking advantage of the best orientations and generating a large private outdoor space to which the house overlooks”, say the architects. This way, Dekton becomes the star of the outdoor space thanks to a façade clad in its Bromo colour. Its dark grey shade, inspired by homogeneous metamorphic rocks such as slate, gives character and strength to the outdoor dining area, enhancing its sense of shelter and contemporary style.

The façade features a ventilated façade cladding with chemical anchoring and 4 mm Dekton panels onto ETICS/EIFS system. This system allows sufficient insulation thickness for this type of project with high thermal comfort requirements.

Full floor-to-ceiling panels – with appropriate spacing between profiles – are perfect for adequate impact resistance. Furthermore, the use of a concealed fixing system in this type of project is an added advantage when it comes to the façade finish.

According to the architects, working with Cosentino materials has meant “ease and safety. Ease because of the strong technical team, really helpful in the prescription process, especially in terms of compliance with technical requirements according to uses, and on-site for the professionals involved. And safety for professionals in terms of the quality and visual value of their materials”, they conclude.
