Cabinetmaker's house

Twobo arquitectura
Barcelona, Spain

The last inhabitant of this house in the Eixample District was a cabinetmaker who filled it with large wooden furniture, further constricting the space

The house is organized as a vast corridor 25 meters long, becoming extremely dark in its center. This feeling of shrinkage is increased by the very effect of perspective and the lack of natural lighting. To reduce this perception of excessive depth, several planes are introduced that dissolve the vanishing point and manage to open up the space and introduce light.

Without forgetting the importance of its last tenant, three large pieces of wooden furniture distributed along the narrow corridor are spatially superimposed and assigned different uses. These pieces, practically free-standing, take care of the essence of the Ensanche apartments, respecting the hydraulic floors, the ceiling moldings and the original woodwork.
