Finnish designer Jenni Juurinen, renowned for her work as a journalist and interior design stylist, has brought her personal aesthetic sensitivity to her own countryside home in Vihti, southern Finland. Known in the Nordic design scene for her spontaneous, cheerful, and deeply material style, Juurinen has created a kitchen that reflects her understanding of domestic space: functional, handcrafted, and simultaneously poetic.
The prominence of soft tones
The heart of the home is this kitchen with clean lines, where natural light, soft tones, and materials create a warm and balanced atmosphere. The furniture, in a soft butter yellow tone (“the beautiful Simple Butter yellow by Doorie,” explains Juurinen), establishes a harmonious dialogue with the natural wood walls and Nordic spruce ceiling. The composition, simple and meticulously crafted, reveals the precision of Scandinavian design, but with a more emotional and vibrant touch that characterises Juurinen's visual universe.
The worktops of both the kitchen and the island are made of Dekton Nebbia, a choice that provides texture, durability, and a neutral tone that balances the overall design. With a creamy white base of fine grain speckled with warm dots, this versatile colour contrasts with the warmth of the furniture and the brightness that floods the space.
A fluid and practical organisation
The kitchen design favours a fluid and practical organisation. The central island, compact and unadorned, multiplies the work surface and visually connects with the rest of the space. Light, always a protagonist in Nordic interiors, enters through large windows and reflects on the Dekton surfaces, revealing their subtle texture and mineral nuances. Metallic handles, a chrome steel tap, or light grey wall modules reinforce a timeless aesthetic where proportion and harmony prevail. Decorative details —a lamp with graphic lines, a small ceramic vase, or a traditional broom— add touches of colour and personality.
The use of Dekton Nebbia responds to both aesthetic and technical criteria. It is resistant to heat, scratches, and stains, qualities that make it an ideal choice for everyday kitchen use. Additionally, its neutral tone enhances the overall brightness and allows the butter yellow colour of the furniture to appear more intense.
