There is an unwritten rule in architecture that says the larger the piece, the more complicated everything else becomes. More weight, more precision, more planning. But the Domínguez Muñoz brothers are not intimidated by this. In their latest project, an exclusive single-family home in Las Vaguadas (Badajoz), Estudio13 Arquitectos not only designs but also builds and delivers turnkey solutions. This combination of design and management allows them to execute projects like this: a modern house with clean lines, huge windows, and a façade that impresses at first glance. Glass takes centre stage, but the counterpoint is provided by Cosentino materials, which have become key allies for the studio.
“Dekton brings us exclusivity,” explains the architect. And it’s no exaggeration. In this project, three Dekton tones—Bromo, Sirius, and Kreta—were used for the façades, skirting boards, and bathrooms, always opting for large-format pieces. Silestone Blanco Zeus was also incorporated in both the kitchen and bathroom for its “aesthetic, elegance, and cleanliness.” In other words, it was chosen for its design, as it should be.
Decisions that transform projects
Speaking of decisions, one of the clearest was to avoid materials with too many joints: “Standard porcelain was ruled out due to its sizes. Cosentino materials were used for the façade and the interior of the home.” The result is a seamless, clean interior without visual breaks, where each surface flows naturally into the next.
From a technical perspective, the project presented several challenges. “Orientation, functionality, and aesthetics were key, but so were the large windows, which were very tall and wide, significantly influencing the layout.” The choice of Cosentino materials addressed both visual and practical criteria in this context. “Dekton is spectacular as a work surface. It’s also easy to clean and maintain, which is an added bonus.”
The installation of 8 mm Dekton slabs on the façade is carried out using direct cladding (DKB system) with cement adhesive, a robust and easy-to-install solution that allows for minimal joints with large formats, maximising aesthetics. Additionally, Dekton’s excellent mechanical properties under extreme environmental conditions, freeze-thaw cycles, UV rays, and abrasion make it an unbeatable choice for exterior façade finishes. Dekton comes with a 25-year warranty for this application and is a Carbon Neutral product.
Polished concrete was chosen for the flooring, reinforcing the monolithic aesthetic that gives coherence to the entire home. The overall design conveys solidity and elegance. And while it may seem like a house designed solely to impress, it truly embodies the concept of a home: functional, bright, and designed for enjoyment.
