Located in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Yavne, Israel, this multigenerational family home designed by Vered Kadouri reinterprets the concept of home as a personal, intimate, and protective refuge. The house, spanning 220 square metres across two floors with a 277-square-metre garden, has been designed to envelop its inhabitants in an atmosphere of calm, balance, and connection with nature. Inspired by a blend of cultures, from the tropical warmth of South America to the minimalist purity of Japan, the proposal aims to create a private, almost womb-like universe, far removed from the frenetic pace of the outside world.
Kadouri's philosophy translates into clean, serene, and timeless spaces, where natural materials, light, and compositional simplicity create an atmosphere of well-being. “I believe in pleasant spaces, where it’s enjoyable to be. Relaxed, simple places with a sense of quality, but always effortless and free of unnecessary ornamentation,” explains the architect.
Natural materials for a healthy space
The connection with nature and the pursuit of a healthy environment are fundamental to this project. Natural materials and techniques have been used to enhance thermal comfort and indoor air quality. The goal was to build a house that breathes, maintains a moisture balance, and improves the well-being of its occupants.
Although the house was not initially conceived as a sustainable architecture project, Kadouri has integrated eco-friendly solutions and environmentally respectful materials. “I always strive to include materials that breathe, that contribute to the quality of life of the people inhabiting the spaces,” she highlights.
The versatility of Dekton in interior and exterior
The use of Dekton in this project meets both aesthetic and functional criteria. The architect has selected different shades and applications that enhance the visual continuity of the spaces and their serene, natural character.
In the exteriors, including the entrance steps and transit areas, Dekton Nacre has been used, a warm and neutral tone that provides uniformity and durability. This same material covers the outdoor kitchen and its island, ensuring durability and easy maintenance in a high-use space.
For the interior of the house, Dekton Avorio has been used in the main kitchen, both on the worktop and the island, and in the guest toilet sink, creating a bright and timeless aesthetic. Meanwhile, the children's bathroom combines Dekton Albarium in cladding and flooring, providing a delicate texture and a sense of cleanliness and freshness.
“The choice of Cosentino materials reflects their practicality, durability, and antibacterial properties, ideal for a family home with children. Moreover, the colours fit perfectly into the project's colour palette,” notes Kadouri.
Architecture designed to endure
Beyond fashions or trends, the project reflects Vered Kadouri's vision of the future of design: spaces that offer refuge, serenity, and connection with the essentials. “I work less with trends and more with people. We live in a world that needs places to escape to, spaces for respite that adapt to each client,” she explains.
With a focus on sustainability and well-being, the architect advocates for architecture committed to natural materials, functionality, and refined aesthetics. A timeless language that, as in this house in Yavne, seeks to create an enveloping and healthy environment in which to enjoy everyday life.
