The Bayview is a residential project located on the Queensland coast that combines contemporary functionality with a distinctly industrial aesthetic approach. Belle Casa Interiors, led by Baden Behrens, has designed this home as an elegant and tactile space where every texture carries sensory weight.
Technical advantages for the exterior
The reasons for choosing the material were, in addition to its evident aesthetic value, its durability and technical performance. The designer explains: “We wanted the sophisticated and timeless look of split travertine, but needed a solution that was more resistant to heat, stains, and constant sun exposure.” In this sense, the material's versatility was key, both for its resistance and its application in minimal thicknesses, which facilitated installation without overloading the structure, even on vertical surfaces.
Additionally, Dekton's excellent mechanical properties make it resistant to UV rays, freeze-thaw cycles, abrasion, and stains, making it the perfect material for any façade project. Cosentino also offers a 25-year warranty for this application and a commitment to sustainability thanks to its Carbon Neutral certification.
The cladding of Dekton pieces on the façade directly bonded with adhesive mortar used in this project is a simple and effective application, which can be complemented with concealed safety clips. The pieces are supplied cut to size and with machining as part of Cosentino's Cut to Size service, although rear grooving can also be easily done on-site.
Continuity in the interior
Inside, the use of Dekton creates continuity and cohesion in the spaces. One of the key elements of the project is the living room wall that integrates the suspended fireplace. Instead of using solutions like microcement, the team opted for Dekton Nebu panels, with a travertine aesthetic that allows for a sober and sculptural effect, with a considerably lighter weight than natural stone. This lightness was crucial to create a cantilevered section that appears to float above the seating area.
Additionally, Cosentino's material also appears in other key areas of the home. In the main kitchen, the large island is clad in the same Dekton Nebu finish, reinforcing the visual continuity and homogeneous materiality of the space.
Outside, the kitchen worktop and parapet cladding have been made with Dekton Polar, whose light tone enhances the architectural geometry and brings brightness to the surroundings. Meanwhile, the en-suite bathroom features a worktop and sides in Dekton Sabbia, creating a warm and nuanced atmosphere, urban yet welcoming.
The project stands out for its dramatic approach to colours, finishes, and textures, in line with the industrial spirit pursued from the outset.
