The historic McDonald’s Satélite restaurant, located in the State of Mexico, has been completely remodelled by TAF Grupo Arquitectónico, becoming the first establishment in Latin America to adopt the brand’s new global image. This project marks a turning point in McDonald’s corporate architecture: a shift towards a more contemporary, sustainable, and durable design, where visual identity is expressed through material and proportion rather than traditional colours.
“The proposal aims to reinterpret McDonald’s identity from a more architectural and less corporate perspective, integrating noble and durable materials that interact with the urban environment of Satélite,” explain TAF Grupo Arquitectónico. The result is a monolithic and understated building, whose clean-lined façade becomes its main feature. With a cement-like texture and dark tones, the volume conveys solidity, modernity, and discreet elegance.
Dekton: resistance, precision, and contemporary aesthetics
To bring this vision to life, the studio chose Dekton, an ultra-compact surface that combines high technical performance with refined and versatile aesthetics. “We chose Dekton for its technical performance and aesthetic capabilities. As the façade is exposed to the elements, we required a material resistant to UV rays, temperature changes, and minimal maintenance,” the architects state.
The construction system was resolved through a ventilated façade with 4 mm Dekton slabs, a solution that reduces the overall weight and optimises installation time and costs without compromising the material’s durability or colour stability. The panels are fixed using the DKC system.
The client also highlights the colour choice as a key decision. “Kreta brings neutrality and brightness, while Eter adds contrast and visual strength, creating an elegant balance that represents the brand’s evolution.” The combination of both tones creates a play of light and shadow that enlivens the façade throughout the day, adapting to the natural movement of the sun.
“Dekton provided us with the opportunity to achieve the contrast and visual depth we were looking for, without compromising the durability required for a high-traffic commercial space,” add TAF. Thanks to its resistance to wear, impacts, stains, and solar radiation, the material ensures an impeccable appearance over time. Cosentino also offers a 25-year warranty on façades and a commitment to sustainability with its Carbon Neutral certification.
A new global identity, from Mexico to Latin America
The remodel of McDonald’s Satélite was developed under close coordination with the chain’s national and international teams. “Dekton provides durability, colour stability, and agile installation. Its low maintenance and natural appearance helped us achieve a modern façade that reflects the brand’s evolution,” the client reiterates.
The result is a building that redefines McDonald’s aesthetics in Latin America, combining innovation, functionality, and environmental responsibility. A façade that stands out not for its boldness, but for its quiet elegance: a new chapter in the history of a global icon.
