An artist’s studio where art reigns supreme

Art, craftsmanship and serene design

Together with his partner Mónica Bartolessis, designer and plastic artist Jaime Jurado has created a creative, intimate and relaxed universe with his proposal for Casa Decor. “It is a replica of the office where artists receive their clients, as a prelude to the studio itself, which we rarely show because, as I often say, opening the doors of the studio is opening the doors of the soul”, explains Jurado.

In this project called ‘Púrpura’ (Purple), the team of designers has taken into account the guiding principles that define their work: art, craftsmanship and design. The three disciplines coexist in a warm atmosphere within a palette of neutral tones.

Design in the spotlight

A very neutral and warm texture envelops the space, highlighting the works of art, which are enhanced by well-balanced technical and decorative lighting. In this context, design takes centre stage through the furniture and flooring, for which Dekton has been the material of choice, also being used for the doorjambs. Specifically, the colour chosen was Nilium, “a light colour with a touch of rust that is perfect for high traffic floors. It is hard-wearing, and adds a very contemporary industrial touch”, says Jurado.

Jaime Jurado also designed a monolithic and sculptural table in Dekton Sirius that takes centre stage thanks to its deep black tone without veins and “a very minimalist and pure character that fits perfectly with the rest of the furniture used, also designed by us”, he further says. For Jurado, one of the biggest advantages of working with a material like Dekton is its ease of use. “Dekton is a very versatile material both for its ease of assembly and for the possibilities it offers in terms of thicknesses and sizes”, says the artist and designer.

An exhibition of arts and crafts

A handmade ceramic mural with purple (the colour that gives the project its name) as the predominant colour represents this symbiosis between different artistic disciplines, such as ceramics, painting and drawing, and the interior design of the space. Everything from the lighting of the space to its neutral envelope was planned to highlight both this work of art and the other artistic pieces created by Jurado. All the paintings and sculptures, the straw ceiling and the 15 portrait busts are the work of Jurado. These are pieces in very different styles but reminiscent of classicism as well as minimalist conceptual art. “It is a contemporary language featuring the Renaissance guiding principles. Very eclectic and, at the same time, very thoughtful”.

A commitment to sustainability

“We always approach our designs from the perspective of sustainability. In this case, it manifests itself through the straw ceiling, mortar wall cladding, the wood and ceramics, and the Dekton surfaces”, says Jurado. The great artisan value of the various pieces of furniture, from the industrial style shelving to the table in Dekton Sirius, also enhances the value of handmade products.
