In this exclusive interview Brian Ruiter, Cosentino’s Regional Facades Sales Manager for the East and Midwest shares just how Dekton is staying at the forefront. 

Share with us some insight into your role and responsibilities at Cosentino as a facades expert.

I am a Regional Facades Manager responsible for the East and Midwest regions of the United States. In my role, I act as a business development manager. My primary goal is to educate, influence, and lead the Cosentino Architect and Design Sales Managers (ADSMs) into the facades world by developing and deepening relationships with architects and facade installers.

What makes Cosentino’s products and services unique in the facade market?

At first glance, an architect or designer might be tempted to opt for porcelain facades because they’re familiar with it and have seen it used before. The question is: how do we design a stunning aesthetic for the exterior of a building without compromising performance? And the answer is simple: Dekton.

How do you see the facade industry evolving in the East and Midwest of the United States and as a whole?

The great news about construction is that every building has a facade, no exceptions! How a building performs and how the facade influences that performance has drastically evolved over the past 5-10 years with the development of rainscreen systems. Today, the marketplace demands not simply a material supplier and manufacturer - clients can find those anywhere and everywhere. Because of the advanced nature of rainscreen systems, clients need sales consultants offering turnkey solutions. And that’s where Cosentino comes in with our Dekton product, facade professionals, and partnerships. 

Historically, natural stone has been a go-to facade solution, but as we now know, it comes with drawbacks. What makes Dekton a great alternative? 

After many years of the same, the facade market is ready for something new and unique. The industry is poised to be disrupted by Dekton, a cutting-edge solution. How does Dekton influence sustainability in facade design?

Sustainability is no longer a nice-to-have, it is a must. It is part of today’s conversations and here to stay. In modern architecture and accounting for the understanding we have of surfaces and building lifecycles and performance requirements, certifications like the HPD are non-negotiable. For example, as a surfacing provider, one cannot approach a university or hospital system without this certification and the associated sustainability report. 

What does the future hold for Dekton?

The future of Dekton is all about facades.  With constant innovation and specialized support, Cosentino is poised to become the industry expert on facades and rainscreen systems.
