Don’t sleep on Dekton as the perfect bed frame material

We are proud to work with designers that break the mold and propel the industry with their forward-thinking designs and unique applications. Houston-based designer Nina Magon from Nina Magon Studio and part of the Cosentino Design Alliance embodies this and more.

Magon created a never-before-seen Dekton Taga bed frame for the 2021 Kips Bay Show House in Palm Beach that perfectly complements the rest of her design. She selected Dekton Taga’s gray tones and marbled pattern as the perfect counterpart to the predominantly pink guest bedroom of this Palm Beach estate.

Magon spoke exclusively with Cosentino to give us a behind-the-scenes look into her creative process when creating this cutting-edge design. Let’s take a closer look...

What design and style were you aiming for when designing this room for the KIPS Bay show house?

All of my interiors are greatly influenced by my love of Italian design, especially the work of the great Gio Ponti. While in Milan a few years ago I toured some of his historic, landmarked private Milanese villas and was inspired by the ceilings and classical architectural moldings that contributed to the beauty of his interiors. When approaching the design of my Kips Bay bedroom, I incorporated all of these classical elements and merged them into a modern and futuristic design with distinguished furniture pieces, to create the Nina Magon version of a Palm Beach Interior.

How did you come up with the idea to create a bed frame made of Dekton?

With our room being more European/Italian inspired, we wanted to incorporate low modern furniture in the space to balance the large-scale chandelier. We immediately thought that we could use this opportunity to create something unique and bespoke for the space. With that in mind, a show-stopping custom stone platform bed was our first thought! We have used Dekton in many past projects and knew its versatility, so we chose the Dekton Taga material to really add a modern edge to our space by wrapping our custom platform bed with it.

How did the Dekton Taga bed help achieve your design vision?

The material's polished look and neutral color add just the right amount of bold drama to help ground the space and balance all the pink hues in a sleek and sophisticated way.

What is a must-have for your creative process?

Good inspiration. Whether it's an object, a place, or an idea, I always have to have something that really inspires me in order to get my creative process started. It all branches out from a singular inspiration and flourishes from there.

What is your favorite design trend of all time?

Mixing and blending different styles within one design in a forward-thinking manner.

There is nothing more rewarding than providing materials that allow the design community to bring to life creations and opening up previously unthinkable design possibilities. Dekton’s versatility allowed renowned designer Nina Magon to create this unique bed frame that perfectly complements the rest of her design.

With truly versatile and durable materials, the sky's the limit - and Nina Magon is living proof. She envisioned a low bed frame made of stone, and with Dekton Taga, it was brought to life and added the perfect unique edge to this heavenly pink guest room.
