At a time when design seeks to reconnect with the essence of people and the environments we inhabit, the color palette takes on a renewed prominence. Color is no longer just an aesthetic matter but an emotional, cultural, and narrative tool.
This is confirmed by the book Shaping Tomorrow: Future Design & Architecture 2025-2026, presented by Cosentino, a pioneering document that analyses how spaces are being transformed and the role materials, colours, and textures play in this evolution. Among its most revealing conclusions is a clear inclination towards palettes that convey authenticity, warmth, and connection with nature. The colours we choose for our homes and projects should not only beautify but also make us feel at home.
The power of color to connect us to our roots
This book features the vision and work of two key figures in the fields of design, communication, and color: Enric Pastor and Judith van Vliet, both authors of this trend book.
Enric Pastor is a journalist specializing in design, architecture, and interior design. He currently leads MANERA magazine, where he explores design with a fresh and cross-disciplinary perspective, and regularly collaborates with brands and institutions to analyze the impact of trends on the spaces we inhabit.
Judith van Vliet, on the other hand, is an international color consultant and founder of The Color Authority. Boasting a strong background in color research and design, her work focuses on understanding how color influences emotions, decisions, and environmental perception.
Judith states that colour not only decorates but connects with our deepest emotions. As we gather from the macrotrend 'Origen' in the report, there is an increasing desire to return to our origins, connect with cultural roots, and allow our idiosyncrasies to flourish.
“Returning to our roots involves using our hands while creating, almost as a counter-movement to the growth of artificial intelligence within the design community. Creating by hand with locally available materials adds authenticity to creations.”
A warm and timeless color palette
Origen offers a selection of earthy and organic colors with unexpected tones, drawn from feelings of nostalgia for our past. The burgundy red is the focal point of the palette, inspired by the native pigment derived from the cochineal insect, flanked by a vintage lemon green and a more serious, sober cactus green. The base colors include a warm grayish neutral reminiscent of sandy and dusty horizons and a reddish earth brown that feels like a warm embrace, comforting and the true color of heritage.
The Origin palette, defined by Judith van Vliet in collaboration with Cosentino, presents a range of five key tones that, whether combined or used individually, create an intimate and timeless atmosphere connecting the past and present:
- Essence: a captivating tone that embodies authenticity and sincerity. This shade, close to white, with subtle hints of yellow and touches of green, radiates the purity of its natural origins.
- Vintage: A vibrant chartreuse green inspired by vintage aesthetics, radiating a deep connection to nature. This shade fosters a necessary harmony, reflecting the unlimited potential of nature.
- Heritage: A sunlit earthy terracotta. Its orange undertones convey warmth and optimism, bringing joy and emotional strength, reconnecting us to nature.
- Cochinilla: A rich and deep burgundy red that radiates warmth. This traditional Latin American color is inspired by the cochineal insect, representing the richness of its natural resources and a tribute to tradition.
- Cactus: A soft, delicate, and natural green with a yellow undertone, inspired by cacti and other succulent vegetation that thrive in harsh, dry environments.
This warm and organic palette helps create immersive and human atmospheres, especially in home settings. Spaces like kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and outdoor areas gain comfort and personality when adorned with colors that evoke natural elements: earth, stone, vegetation, sun...
Materials that strengthen the connection to our heritage
Under the Origen trend, we find a selection of four colours from Cosentino's portfolio inspired by natural pigments with centuries-old heritage or fossilised stones with earthy and textured touches.
Umber by Dekton: The Umber color from the Kraftizen collection is a warm terracotta inspired by natural pigments. The textured surface adds character and warmth, making it ideal for cozy spaces.
Ceppo by Dekton: The gray-blue multiform structure of the Italian Ceppo di Gré stone inspires this surface, ideal for both interior and exterior applications. Its timeless design makes it a perfect choice for classic or modern environments. The origin of the material translates into a timeless yet fascinating effect that adds dynamism to any space.
Avorio by Dekton: Light-colored with a natural finish, Avorio is inspired by the stone of the same name, an Italian material characterized by the presence of fossilized shells. Its design is particularly suitable for applications where edge-to-edge design continuity is required.
Petrified Wood by Prexury: An exquisite natural creation, petrified wood is formed when tree layers are replaced by minerals through the process of fossilization. Over 240 million years old, the petrified wood in Prexury has been meticulously crafted by skilled artisans who carefully select each “log” for its color and crystallization. It is then cut and hand-worked to create incomparably rare products that bring the ancient wonders of nature into modern interiors.

The Trend Report by Cosentino not only captures trends but also outlines a roadmap toward more human-centered design, more connected to the environment and truer to our essence. Along this journey, color—in its most authentic, inviting, and natural form—emerges as a key vehicle for creating soulful spaces.
