On November 16 Cosentino was proud to sponsor the 32nd Macael Awards, hosted by the Andalusian Marble Industry Association (AEMA), the leading natural stone association in the Almeria region of Spain. The award ceremony was the fourth consecutive and the last of the current AEMA president who will finish his term in September 2019.

The Macael Awards were created in 1985 with the aim of recognizing professionals who have excelled especially in the fields of architecture, crafts and design at national and international level, and individuals, institutions and media that have performed singular activities for the benefit of the Marble Sector and the Region. Throughout these 32 years, the Macael Awards has been considered the most important event of the Spanish Natural Stone Sector nationwide.

“Internationalization is a fact in Macael, it is a challenge achieved by the companies of our industry that once again have been able to adapt to the demands of today and lay the foundations for tomorrow», said Antonio Sánchez, AEMA president. “Those present tonight represent the most prestigious projects in the industry at the national and international level.”

Over 400 professionals representing the stone industry from multiple countries attended the awards; noteworthy guests included The Spanish Minister of Culture, José Guirao and Gabriel Amat, President of the Diputación de Almería, who received the Institution Award, Eduardo Cosentino, Executive Vice President Global Sales for Cosentino Group and CEO of Cosentino North America and Massimo Ballucchi, Executive Director of Marketing of Cosentino North America, attended as well and received the Communication Award on behalf of winner Cindy Allen, Editor-in-Chief of Interior Design.

The Jury selected Interior Design for 2018 Communication Award because of the publication’s commitment as “a world reference in the world of design, which shows constant support to both, established and emerging designers, continuously promoting the marbles and compact surfaces on their pages.”

“It was truly an honor to represent the partnership between the Almeria region of Spain and the interior design community in America,” said Massimo Ballucchi. “We hope to continue working with our media partners, like those at Interior Design, to continue to strengthen the region’s prestigious reputation in North America.”

The event’s theme was based on ​​the film ‘2001: A space odyssey’ and included a video mapping show, integrating dancers and violinists, to represent the development of humanity through the use of marble. In addition, once the awards ceremony was over, the premiere of the audiovisual composition ‘Cantera de las estrellas’ (Quarry of the stars), a tribute to the Macael quarries, was performed with photography by Carlos de Paz and Francisco Villegas,symphonic poetry by Juan Cruz Guevara, from Macael, and video by  José Jiménez incorporated into the performance.
