From Fashion to Design, Inspiration is Everywhere in Milan

Always on the lookout for fresh ideas and inspiring design Cosentino and Silestone Trendspotter Kerrie Kelly, crossed the pond to tour Milan during the city’s highly anticipate Milan Design Week —including two popular shows, Salone del Mobile Milano and Eurocucina as well as an array of design-related exhibitions around the town.
Among her many stops, Kerrie visited Milan’s premiere shopping district, where she found many retailers showcasing the infiltration of fashion into home design. In the warehouse district, she spotted a number of product manufacturers showcasing inspirational design for the home including the use of new materials and colors for kitchen appliances. At the University of Milan, additional student-driven design collaborations were showcased, including the Moon Exception, a Cosentino-sponsored project that showcases the infinite possibilities of its surfacing lines.
The key trends came when Kerrie searched the isles and isles of products at Salone and Eurocucina. There she identified a number of trends that the American market can expect to see in the coming years for both the kitchen and the bath. Among the top kitchen trends: Statement lighting, integrated appliances with added technology, open shelving and a resurgence of both sleek contemporary design and the industrial chic look. For the bathroom, added color and texture took center stage. Coupling matte and high-gloss fixtures, to intricate customized hardware and bold color statements, personalization for the bathroom came in many forms.
