The homeowners were looking for a beautiful kitchen that combined fashion and function to accommodate their three small children and two dogs. They were drawn to a European aesthetic but wanted modern conveniences, so KKDL created a design that featured old and new, high and low.
Speaking of form and function, the homeowners originally wanted a kitchen made entirely of marble, but Lori knew that while marble would be beautiful, it would also soak up every little stain. So instead, marble was used as an accent on the backsplash and behind the cooktop while Dekton Kairos took the place of Carrara for the countertops and island, due to its durability and similar look.
A focus on utility (with an eye for style) continued through the entire project. The cabinets are upgraded Shaker style, paired with extra-long pulls for comfortable grab and finished in brushed nickel so fingerprints don’t show. The floor is actually porcelain tile made to mimic the look of wide-plank wood. The large island houses a microwave drawer and an icemaker; pullout drawers were installed instead of lower cabinets because they are easier to access and offer more storage options.
