Interior designer and building architect Memmu Pitkänen loves practicality and carefully thought out interior solutions. She lives in a detached house in Pohtola, Tampere, with her husband and two teenage children. The house is a white-plastered brick house by the lake, completed in 1990. The views from the windows are the most amazing feature of the house, and she wanted to bring this nature effect to the interior design as well.
The family moved into the house in the summer of 2022 and they renovated all the interior surfaces to match the modern interior. They invested the most in the new kitchen because it is the most important and used space in their home. The kitchen had to be beautiful, practical and time-resistant.
Kitchen producer Novart's Nordic Nature kitchen was love at first sight. The warm, brown shade of wood and the vertically grooved cabinet doors were also the inspiration for other interiors, such as the batten-panel walls and the 'flutes' glass used in the bathrooms.
Memmu tell us: “Trine Katajisto from Novart drew kitchen pictures for me. The kitchen is part of Novart's new Nordic Nature collection. In addition to the actual kitchen, I also got a wine cabinet set in the dining area, which used the same Nordic Nature display case glass and the same stone as the kitchen.”
Memmu continues: ”for theworktops , I chose Dekton Helena, which in terms of tone matched the whole. This material came not only to the worktops, but also to the intermediate space, that is, very visibly. The island furniture has a rounded Nordic Nature corner and of course the level was rounded at the same time. For the flooring, I chose dark brown chevron parquet from Timberwise to match the shades.”
