Mediterranean style reigns supreme at the Sal Maris restaurant in Albufeira, Portugal. A delight in blue and white that makes the fusion of interior and exterior a constant in defining the lines of the project, led by architect and designer Ana Lucas, a Brazilian living in Portugal.
When asked about the most interesting architectural and decorative feature of the project, she has no doubt: the entrance counter. ‘This was the main focus of the project, serving as a reception area for customers. The requirement was for a sophisticated material that would enhance the location and purpose of the environment.
A refined touch in the common areas
For the reception area, the colour of choice was Dekton Trance from the Onirika collection. ‘It is very bold and brings a great personality to this passageway area,’ says the designer. ‘The reason for choosing Cosentino was that, as a commercial space, we needed durability,’ she points out, and the ultra-compact Dekton surface more than meets this requirement.
For the rooftop bar area, the studio selected Dekton Albarium. This off-white colour features transparencies and colour gradations typical of Roman stuccoes that imitated white marble. Although it has a matt finish, depending on the incidence of light, reflections and shine that simulate marble dust can be seen. This powdery white was a perfect match for all the colours and had the durability needed to withstand harsh weather conditions.
Dekton, also for use in bathrooms
For the more private areas, Ana Lucas’ studio also turned to Cosentino surfaces because, in her words, ‘the materials are known for their high quality and durability’. Dekton is a technological material composed of porcelain, glass and quartz that can withstand daily wear and tear, stains, knocks and scratches, making it ideal for high-traffic and heavy-use areas such as restaurant bathrooms.
So she decided on Dekton Zenith nordic white with a matt finish for the women’s bathroom. This is Cosentino’s whitest and cleanest surface, with a satin finish and a smooth texture. For the men’s bathroom, however, she went for Domoos, a simple and sober graphite black that cultivates an elegant and refined aesthetic.
