34 dwellings with two, three or four bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and living-dining room. This is the main layout of the Aresa building, built in Lugo under the direction of the architect Jesús Quiroga López. The building also has three basement floors for parking and storage, and a ground floor with an empty commercial space, storage and service rooms, and general access to the dwellings.

“The interior layouts of each floor show significant differences in relation to the number of dwellings or their typology, which results in differences in the exterior volume”, says Quiroga.

“This has led us to reflect these structural differences on the façade, generating small variations in the openings, depending on the specific floor. The result is a state-of-the-art façade with vertical openings and similar rhythms and proportions that reflects the interior of the building, using new and trendy materials. Its impact on energy savings and the lower building demand will also be significant”, Quiroga further says.

DKTN on façades: minimal maintenance and maximum durability

Quiroga points to the many advantages of the building’s ventilated façade, consisting of aluminium profiles, 80 mm rock wool, waterproof membrane, air gap and exterior cladding in 8 mm DKTN Aeris, Eter and Keranium with visible clips.

Among the three colours used on the façade, the most prominent is DKTN Aeris, a light neutral shade with subtle cream touches reminiscent of White Limestone. To create contrast and bring an air of modernity, Aeris was combined with DKTN Eter, a colour with a dark granite background in black and grey tones, and with DKTN Keranium, a powerful, trendy colour with industrial and technological reminiscences.

Thanks to this cladding, the maintenance of the building will be minimal, as DKTN is highly resistant to UV rays and to freezing and thawing, ensuring that it will remain intact for decades (in fact, it comes with a 10-year commercial warranty).

High energy efficiency thanks to a DKTN-clad ventilated façade

In addition to this, this ultra-compact surface features excellent acoustic and thermal absorption, which, as Quiroga points out, has a positive impact on the energy efficiency of the building. Furthermore, DKTN hardly absorbs any water and is highly resistant to stains, abrasion and scratches. This ensures that the façade panels will retain their uniform colour over time.

“Working with Cosentino materials has brought a number of advantages in the design and execution of the façade. We have been provided with a high quality material, executed by excellent professionals. In addition, DKTN allows large-format custom cut-outs, joints and edges, providing a façade that respects the compositions and rhythms of the proposed solution”, says Quiroga.

Inside the building, the developer also relied on Cosentino products for the foyer of the building – where DKTN Aeris and Eter were used in keeping with the building’s exterior –, as well as for the kitchen worktops in the flats, for which Silestone Miami Vena, a simple design in light, veined tones against a white background that highlights the contemporary spirit of the project, was used.
