A kitchen that looks like a sculpture. This is the effect created by the elegant and innovative island with built-in sink in this house in Plymouth, New Zealand. It comes as no surprise that its occupant is a contractor with a wealth of experience and a good taste that can move even kitchen experts.
“The void above the kitchen is stunning: the space creates a sense of calm, and the mezzanine garden adds further warmth and texture to the space, with greenery hanging down the plastered back wall”, says Anika Rowson of Rowson Kitchens.
“The shape of the island adds character thanks to the White Macaubas surface, block-shaped and positioned vertically along the horizontal line, while the veneer back wall reinforces the presence of the kitchen within the large space and allows the island to stand out”, she further says. With this, the designer highlights the island’s curved shape at one end and angled at the other, together with its worktop, which features Sensa White Macaubas.
Sensa White Macaubas: natural beauty and outstanding strength
This Sensa colour embodies the overwhelming force of nature and brings visual richness to the space thanks to its sober and deep shades. But its beauty is not its only advantage: “Sensa is stain resistant, which is key to its durability, and offers a 15-year warranty, giving great peace of mind to customers who chose this material. In addition, choosing a natural material is a wonderful option, as each slab features a unique pattern”, Rowson further says.
“In our early discussions about possible materials, I suggested using natural stone, as the project required texture, and I liked the way the dark oak veneer enhanced the darker veins of the granite I had never used this colour before, and I found it beautiful and unique”, she says.
A house with clean, refined and sophisticated lines
A downdraft induction hob – which eliminates the need for a suspended extractor fan – finishes off the kitchen, further accentuating its clean, minimalist aesthetic. Other design solutions within this line include a built-in fridge and a bespoke granite sink made from the same stone as the worktop. Meanwhile, the chevron-patterned wooden floor contrasts with the overall refined style, adding warmth and visual richness.
“It was important to design a functional kitchen that could cope with the needs of a young and busy family and, at the same time, fit perfectly into the space. This was our second time working with Chad and Ginny on their personal projects, and their old kitchen had a similar design that had worked well for them”, says Rowson.
Last but not least, in addition to the kitchen, Sensa White Macaubas was used for the master bathroom, the vanity and the laundry room of this couple with children, bringing a sense of uniformity and distinction to the decoration of this beautiful home in New Zealand.
