About Torres Blancas
Studio Noju
Madrid, Spain
Both as architects and owners, Eduardo Mora and Antonio Tazón sought to recover the ambiguity between interior and exterior of the original duplex
When Saenz de Oiza designed this experimental tower almost sixty years ago, he did so with the intention of designing a vertical, brutalist forest. After undergoing several renovations and passing through the hands of different owners, the enclosures took over the terraces and the partitions concealed the sinuous geometry of the floor plan designed by the Madrid architect. Studio Noju has turned this emblematic flat into its own home and headline image.
Stripped of any added non-structural elements, the outdoor spaces become part of the home again. The chosen furniture is characterised by harmonising with the curved shapes of the walls, and its neutral colours are left in the background to give prominence to the bright reddish and green tones which, together with the tinted stained glass windows that occasionally replace some opaque enclosures, differentiate areas such as the bathroom or the semi-terrace.
