In the world of interior architecture, finding the perfect materials and partners is essential to creating impressive designs. Ward Moyson, interior architect at Vorm Interior Architects, has been working with Dekton since its launch in 2013. As a pioneer, he applied the material several years ago within two remarkable projects for client KBC. In the Brussels office building, a breathtaking staircase and floor forms the centerpiece of the space, while in Grimbergen, a canopy adorns the exterior of the building. Let's discover how he managed to bring these inspiring projects to life.
The project involved an office building where the focus was on the exterior, which included a new entrance, cladding of the canopy and ceiling. "It was a challenge to initially convince the client of the durability and quality of this then relatively unknown material, but together with partner Karl Syben this project was successfully executed" Ward explains. Vorm Interior Architects chose Dekton Blanc Concrete, a concrete look with beige tones that seamlessly matched the original 1960s concrete material. Quickly followed a project for the Brussels office - the realization of a stunning entrance hall.
It all started with a piece of paper, a pen and an idea
As Ward developed his vision for the project, a clear image of a floating staircase emerged in his mind. He wanted to create a natural flow with no visible supports, so the staircase would blend organically into the design. However, finding a partner who could realize this concept seemed like a nearly impossible task. Fortunately, Ward stumbled upon EeStairs, a company that embraced his ideas and came up with a strong solution. Through intensive collaboration and sketches sent back and forth, the floating staircase design was further refined and brought to life.
The Perfect Choice of Materials
When choosing the materials for the staircase, functionality was high on the list. "Every day around 1,000 people walk on the stairs. I knew I needed a hard-wearing material as a result. After careful consultation and with stability in mind, it was decided to have Dekton tiles cut to size to perfectly match each step. Dekton, known for its durability and scratch resistance, proved to be the ideal choice.
The color Danae was chosen to create harmony with the architectural concrete in the patio. "Also, we decided to lay Dekton floor tiles in the entrance hall in the same color for a uniform look. To me, the result is still wow! Now in the EeStairs catalog, we can still be found among big names like Zaha Hadid. As tiny agency we are among them," concludes Ward proudly.
