The Danish Embassy in Spain returns to Casa Decor with its iconic Danish Design+ space, designed this year by COMAD Arquitectos. The sisters Beatriz and Teresa Enríquez have created a dreamlike living space called ‘Gylden æske’, which aims to present the jewels of Danish design in a sophisticated and elegant environment, without losing the essence of the Scandinavian lifestyle, which is based on living with few elements to keep the mind clear and surrounding oneself with objects that can create an emotional bond.

‘Neutral colours and clean surfaces convey an uncluttered space in the mind, while aged gold contrasts with the modernity of the design pieces to create a space of understated, serene and contemporary luxury,’ explain Beatriz and Teresa. The bold Danish design pieces bring elegance, sensitivity, functionality and simplicity to this space. In this way, they seek to prioritise only objects and furniture that you can relate to emotionally and, of course, that do not follow passing trends; they are unique and timeless pieces.

The sophisticated and timeless style of the kitchen is reflected in its centrepiece, the worktop, which features a unique design: the TK05 Sabbia colour from Dekton’s latest Pietra Kode collection designed by Daniel Germani. A reinterpretation of Italian travertine that will leave no one indifferent for its innovation and reinterpretation of natural stone, but which also respects the timelessness of this space. In addition, the splashback and the side and top panels, which enclose the front of the kitchen in a rectangle, are all in the same Dekton colour and 12 mm thick.

The attractive colour recoding of natural stone gives the kitchen a surprising and cosy feel, while adding a Mediterranean touch to the Nordic style of the space.

Wood is one of the key features in this space, starting with the wide slatted floor that provides warmth and connects the rooms in an uninterrupted flow, from the kitchen-dining room to the bright living room. It is also the basis for design pieces, along with natural fabrics and leather.

The art and design pieces have great visual weight and steal much of the limelight. The simplicity of the décor conveys calm, balance and elegance, ‘all in a very Nordic style’.

Of particular note is the furniture, which combines classic pieces by Fritz Hansen with contemporary pieces by Norr11, Normann Copenhagen and 101 Copenhagen. ‘Contemporary lighting by Nuura adds warmth and sophistication. The African-inspired fabrics by Mumutane lend a cosmopolitan and homely touch. The luxurious curtains by Arne Aksel in shades of gold and pink and the coloured cut glass accessories by Reflections Copenhagen enhance the colour scheme and reinforce the modern luxury character of the space,’ say Beatriz and Teresa.

A small urban garden, visible through a Velux window, is integrated into the living room. A Bang & Olufsen high-definition speaker completes the experience of luxury and comfort. The designers claim that Danish designer pieces are designed and built to last and to be passed down from generation to generation as ‘family jewels’, as is the case with Dekton, which offers a 25-year warranty for residential projects. Its formulation in ultra-compacted and sintered natural stone ties in with another of the space’s premises: the use of mainly natural materials such as certified wood, leather, wool, cotton, iron or brass. The studio wanted to create durable, repairable and recyclable spaces with the smallest possible carbon footprint, so they chose Dekton, a surface that is carbon neutral throughout its life cycle.
