The architects in charge of this house in the coastal town of Vila do Conde, in northern Porto, faced a great challenge: to give a new life to a house that was outdated and had almost no connection with the outside, despite being very close to the sea. The team at Edmundo* architecture + planning, the studio in charge of the project, brought the Casa da Praia up to date, preserving its original identity but giving it a completely different life: the interior space is now connected to the exterior without losing any of its privacy.

The continuity in the colours and materials used was essential to achieving this new dimension in a contemporary key. “The proximity to the beach creates the perfect setting for the house: warm, soft tones, natural textures, embracing wood. A house as simple as the sand, but as strong as the sea”, the studio says.

The colours used, both inside and out, play with the sand bathed by the Atlantic Ocean just a few metres away. “In a house by the sea, natural elements cannot be missing: wood reminiscent of beach constructions or the sandy tone of Silestone. All this transports us to the fullness of waking up to the sound of the waves”, they further say.

Silestone Coral Clay and its texture tell a design story against the backdrop of the sea

“From the outside to the inside, we dive into a world where dreams intertwine with everyday life. A space that is a haven surrounded by nature and the smell of the sea air”. To achieve the dreamlike sense of continuity that the studio talks about, the materials chosen for the project were key, including Silestone Coral Clay.

The architects chose the Suede finish, which offers a soft and pleasant to the touch texture and full colour consistency. “We like to focus on the whole as well as on every little decision, every little detail that creates character, comfort and uniqueness. We chose this material because of its colour and texture, which fit in with the other materials chosen”, they explain.

But beyond providing the perfect colour in a project where the different shades create a whole, Silestone Coral Clay also brings other features. According to the studio: “Blending in with the rest of the project thanks to its neutral tone, we also appreciated its strength and its multiple application possibilities. In this beach house, it was used for the kitchen island, the worktop, the wall and even the pantry doors”.

In fact, Silestone was used throughout the kitchen, from the island to the worktop – where it offers minimal maintenance and high resistance to stains and scratches thanks to its unique and innovative HybriQ + technology –, through to the front wall, where it creates a modern and well-balanced space. As if this were not enough, on one side of the kitchen there is a large cupboard that serves as a pantry and whose sliding door is made of Silestone Coral Clay. There is no end to its possibilities.
