The Soichiro restaurant is an extraordinary culinary experience in itself. It follows a theatrical cooking method based on a perfect interpretation of Japanese culture and cuisine, despite being located in Jakarta, Indonesia. In fact, as the DSN Intervention studio behind the project explains, it is ‘the only Irori restaurant in Jakarta for now. This meant that tables had to be able to withstand the heat and smoke, so a special material was needed’.

Irori means ‘sunken hearth’ in Japanese, and this is what characterises this restaurant, which features such a cooking area between the tables. It was therefore important to find a durable material that would retain the aesthetics and character of this type of establishment without compromising the design.

Dekton as a problem solving material

For DSN Intervention, the decision to work with Cosentino was a clear one ‘because of its performance, high scratch resistance and durability’. ‘We also liked the variety of options and textures it gave us. There is a lot of choice here, which has allowed us to focus on other things’. So their problem was solved.

Specifically, the design team chose Dekton Bromo for both the worktops and the table tops of a total of 17 tables. Dekton Bromo is a dark grey shade, inspired by homogeneous metamorphic rocks such as slate. Subtle, faded graphics, a carefully-created texture and a natural aesthetic define this evocative colour proposal, part of the Natural Collection, a series in which Cosentino continues to express its desire to recreate the best of nature and its geology.

Dekton sintered stone combines a sophisticated blend of minerals with great durability and versatility, perfect for this type of project where cooking and eating takes place at different temperatures and with a variety of ingredients, so cleanliness and ease of maintenance are paramount. Dekton’s ease of maintenance makes it the ideal surface in terms of hygiene, resistance and durability.
